Greetings to the People of Chester County everywhere! For this is a new week and new day. I give thanks to the Lord for being with you in your home, on your job or wherever you find time to read the paper. It is just great to be part of your life. How was your week? I hope and pray it was a great one. If your day was not good for whatever reason, just remember you have the power to turn it around and make it better because this is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it! Some of you wanted to know why I did not have my column in the paper. It was a busy week, and I just ran out of time.
The City would like to say, “Congratulations!” to our Chester County High School Class of 2022! You are more than a conqueror! To be a conqueror is tremendous. Conquer means to triumph, to overcome, to win, to succeed or to be victorious. The class of 2022 has shown that the victory is yours. You have made history, and the future is in your hands. Just remember that, when all is lost, the future still stands and is waiting for you.
City of Henderson, please pray for the protection of our young adults and teenagers as they travel down this road called life!
May 30 is Memorial Day. It is a holiday many of us spend doing family gatherings and backyard barbeques or enjoying a nice evening out with friends and family; however, we choose to celebrate Memorial Day in a different way this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. Whatever you do for Memorial Day, remember to ask yourself this question: “Why do we celebrate Memorial Day?” The primary reason why people celebrate this special event is to commemorate the lives of U.S. soldiers and other military personnel who sacrificed their lives and died in honor of their country. Before, people celebrated this event in honor of the casualties of the American Civil War when more than 600,000 soldiers – Union and Confederate – fell in battle. It is on the calendar May 30 for the entire country celebrates this event to honor all the Americans who have died while taking part in any kind of military action or war.
I know the American Legion Davidson-Haltom Post 157 here in Henderson will have a wonderful program. If you are a veteran and would like more information on how to become a member of American Legion Post 157, please contact Commander Chris Dunbar at 608-5547.
My heart is sad to hear about the 18-year-old gunman accused of a deadly racist rampage at a supermarket in Buffalo, N.Y. This was before the deadly shooting at a black church in Laguna Woods, Calif. Let us not forget the shooting here in Jackson not too long ago. You know, it is not safe for us to go to market or church anymore; however, I believe there is still more good in this world than the bad. People, it is time to pray more than we ever had. You know guns are not the problem; it is the person behind the guns.
To the people of Henderson, please come out to The City of Henderson meeting. The Board meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber on the second floor of City Hall. The Chester County Commission meets every other month at 7 p.m. upstairs in the old courthouse. Check the Chester County Independent for dates. Come out and be a part of the City.
Happy Birthday shout out to Byron McNeal, 5/29; Emori Burton, 5/29; Katherine Armstrong, 5/29; and Susie Hemby, 5/30. May the Lord bless all of you with many more. Continue to pray for people that are in the hospitals, for the ones that are sick in their homes, for our children, teachers and families, for the men and women that are serving our country, for the incarcerated and for the bereaved families everywhere. As I leave you, please stay safe and stay protected. Remember to patronize with our local businesses here in town; let us try to support our own as much as possible.
