Greetings from Hickory Corner.
The ground hog, Punxsutawney Phil, did not see his shadow, so according to legend we will have an early spring. I do not know about all of you, but I am ready for spring. It sure felt like spring on Sunday and Monday. I took advantage of the beautiful day and walked a mile with my dogs, Buddy and Ruger. It was also a beautiful day to do yard work, and I saw several people working in their yards.
Valentine’s Day is coming early in Hickory Corner! The HCCC will host their annual Valentine’s Party beginning at 5 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 8. Join us for an evening of fun, food and fellowship. Please bring a favorite soup, sandwiches, salad or dessert to share. There will be Crowning of Royalty and bingo. Please bring wrapped prizes for our bingo game. As always, everyone is welcomed at our Center. Hope to see you there!
Here is a Valentine’s poem that I found in a book and would like to share it with all of you. It seems fitting for our world today.
“Teach us to love more and hate less” by Helen Steiner Rice: “The legend of St Valentine/was founded on God’s love divine/so, Father as this month begins/show us that one of our sins/is being sparing with our love/which this old world needs so much of/and, Father, make us kind and wise/so we may come to realize/that God the Father made us all/the rich, the poor, the great, the small/and in the Father’s holy sight/no man is yellow black or white/and peace on Earth can not be found/until we meet on common ground/and every man becomes a brother/who worships God and loves each other.”
I encourage each of you to visit those that are not able to get out and about like they used to or simply to just visit with a friend. I recently visited Ronnie and Ladelle Clark and enjoyed chatting with them. I hope my visit brightened their day, but make no mistake, it certainly brightened mine!
Remember those on our prayer list: Elvie Lee Sanders, Arlan Porter, Walt and Ann Bennett, Richy Butler, Ronnie and Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Mary Alice and Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Sue Greene, Jim Ruth, W.T Roland, Peggy Lard, William Maness, Buck Burkhead, and also remember all the caregivers. God hears every prayer.
If you would like to rent the HCC center for your special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.
