President Nelson Weaver thanks everyone who came out and supported our Fall Festival last Saturday. Also many thanks to those members that helped make our fall festival possible.
The monthly meeting at the center will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24. Please note that our meeting times have recently changed from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m. All members are invited to attend.
If you would like to rent the center for your special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159. It gets busy around the holidays, so call early to reserve your date.
Frank and Diann Clayton and Ruby Hanna along with a total of 40 seniors recently enjoyed a trip out west to see Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial and Custer State Park. They saw lots of buffalo. The group experienced a Chuckwagon meal at Fort Hays and visited Wall Drug Store, Corn Palace and the Pony Express Museum. They visited a gold mine and had a guided tour of Deadwood, an old mining town. Diann said that a favorite seemed to be the Badlands National Park, which went for miles. She said that lots of old westerns were filmed there and still are today. They met new friends and had lots of good food, fun, and fellowship.
Bonice Martin had a houseful of company on Sunday, as they celebrated an early Halloween with a luncheon. Everyone enjoyed the fun and good time together.
My niece, Donna, and her friend Ed are visiting from Illinois. She is the daughter of the late Charles Patterson, who grew up in Hickory Corner, and the late Doris Hemby Patterson. Donna and Ed are staying in a cabin at Chickasaw and attended the annual Frontier Days event there.
They attended our HCC Fall Festival on Saturday. Donna took part in our silent auction by taking home a Fall Basket filled with goodies, and Ed purchased a cake from the cake auction. Donna said she enjoyed chatting with everyone and especially loved hearing stories about her dad growing up.
Get in the Halloween mood by loading up the kids and driving by Kenneth and Teresa Burkhead’s home at night. It is a scary sight to see.
