Greetings from Hickory Corner!
Monday was the first day of winter, but it sure did not feel like it with the temperature getting up to 61 degrees. It felt more like spring, and it was a beautiful day to be outside and enjoy the sunshine.
“Joy to the world/The Lord is come/Let earth receive her King/Let every heart prepare Him room/And heaven and nature sing.” As I mentioned last week, this is one of my favorite Christmas songs. When the holidays roll around, one of the first things people seem to do is turn on Christmas music, especially in the stores. Everyone seems to have a favorite Christmas Carol. As I played Santa this week, delivering some goodies, I asked several people about their favorite Christmas song. Here are some of their responses: Bonice Martin – “Blue Christmas,” Erma Lee Morris – “Away in the Manger,” Peggy Patterson – “Silent Night,” Lucy Locke – “Rockin around the Christmas Tree,” Mary Patterson – “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas,” Faye Morrison – “Oh Holy Night,” Ann Morrison – “Oh Beautiful Star of Bethlehem,” Linda Byrd – “Silent Night,” and JoAnn Clayton – “Silent Night.”
It was looking a lot like Christmas at JoAnn Clayton’s home this past Sunday. The outside porch was decorated beautifully for the outside Christmas gathering, which was held with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It certainly was a perfect day for an outside gathering.
As we celebrate the birth of Christ this year, Christmas will be different because of COVID-19. Many have lost their jobs and are hurting financially. Many may decide to have smaller gatherings, and some will not travel to visit their loved ones. There are many who have lost loved ones this year due to COVID or other health problems. It will be a blue Christmas for those families missing someone at their table this Christmas. I still miss someone. But what will not be different is the Reason for the Season – the son of God, the One who came to save us. This is the real joy of Christmas.
Remember in prayer Arlan Porter, Ann Bennett, Richy Butler, Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Jim Ruth, W.T. Roland, Peggy Lard and William and Eddie Luttrell. Continue to pray for those who are dealing with sickness and COVID-19. Sympathy to the family of Ronald Tummins and to all others who have lost loved ones.
If you would like to rent the HCC center for your special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.

Merry Christmas to all!
