Greetings from Hickory Corner! The hotter days of summer are beginning to give way to somewhat cooler weather. Although fall does not arrive until Sept. 22, there are signs that it is right around the corner. Have you noticed the sun is setting earlier? I noticed tonight it was getting dark around 7 p.m. I will miss our long hours of daylight. Soon leaves will be changing colors, and before you know it, they will be falling. Then we will be raking!
Happy Birthday to my friend, Bonice Martin, who will celebrate her birthday on Sept. 19. She will celebrate the day with family. May all your wishes come true, Bonice.
Congratulations to Brianne Matheney, a teacher at Chester County High School, who was recognized as the division winner of West Tennessee as she was a finalist for Teacher of the Year. Brianne is the daughter of my neighbor Lucy Locke and daughter of Beau Locke. Hickory Corner Community is very proud of you, Brianne!
I had my sister-in-law Ellna Roland over for lunch last week. We had a good visit, and we hope to do it again soon.
I recently read an article on Rose Kennedy (the mother of President John Kennedy) who lived to be 104 years old. She lived a long life and lived through a lot of tragedy. After the assassination of her son John Kennedy, she said, “My reaction to grief is a certain kind of nervous action. I just keep moving, walking, pulling away at things, praying to myself while I move, and making up my mind that it is not going to get me. I am not going to be licked by tragedy, as life is a challenge and we must carry on and work for the living as well as mourn for the dead.” With so much going in our world these really are words to live by.
Sympathy and prayers to Mary Maness on the loss of her daughter Donna Lussier. Also, sympathy to all others who have recently lost loved ones.
Remember in prayer Arlan Porter, Ann Bennett, Richy Butler, Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Peggy Lard, William and Eddie Luttrell and Donna Lynch. Please continue to pray for all those who are dealing with sickness. If you would like to add or remove a name from our prayer list, please call me.
“Games can’t be won unless they are played and prayers can’t be answered unless they are prayed. So no matter how busy or crowded your day, make it a practice to take time to pray.” – Helen Steiner Rice
If you would like to rent the HCC Center for your special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.
Folks, this is your column. Please call me at 989-3315 with tidbits, birthdays, anniversaries, vacations or anything you would like to share with us. Last week, I did not write because I did not have any news, so please call me with news no matter how small.
Make it a great week.
