Greetings from Hickory Corner!
The long, hot days are over. Our days are shorter and cooler, and the leaves are falling fast in my yard. A sure sign that fall has arrived.
I was at Ada’s Country Store last week and found Peggy Lard having a late lunch with her granddaughter Macy Morrison, who was in town visiting. Nothing better than spending the day with such a sweet granddaughter.
Many thanks to Mr. Bobby Heflin for responding quickly and putting in a new hot water heater for me when the old one decided it was time to check out.
Mr. Mike Lott stopped by the other day after checking his hay and chatted for awhile. I found out he will be celebrating a birthday on Oct. 25 (I hope I remember the date right). Hope your day is a good one, Mike. If you see him around, give him a birthday shoutout.
How about those Atlanta Braves? I am so happy for them as I am a Braves fan. As of Monday, they have two wins out of seven. Go, Braves!
My daughter Cindy and I had a great week as we went somewhere every day. As always, she brought dinner as she came into town from Cracker Barrel.
Folks, remember National Make A Difference Day is Saturday, Oct. 23. I hope to hear from some of you, telling me how you participated. Do not forget to call me so we can show how much our community cares.
Do you know this? I did not. Oct. 22 is Make a Dog’s Day. If you have a dog, show him/her special attention on this day. If you are looking for a dog, visit a shelter and make a dog’s day by adopting. My yellow lab Ruger, who is 10 years old, loves to go for a walk with me. He follows his nose and takes his time sniffing things. He always gets a treat when our walk is over and seems so happy. I also have a treat, too, after walking.
Remembering Colin Powell, age 84, who passed away Oct. 18, 2021. He served his country well with two tours in Vietnam and was a four star general. Also, he was the Military Chief of Staff and served as Secretary of State showing a lifetime of dedicated service to our nation.
Remember in prayer Arlan Porter, Ann Bennett, Richy Butler, Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Peggy Lard, William and Eddie Luttrell and Donna Lynch. Please continue to pray for all those who are dealing with sickness. Prayers for those who have recently lost loved ones. If you would like to add or remove a name from our prayer list, please call me.
If you would like to rent the HCC Center for your special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.
Folks, this is your column. Please call me at 989-3315 with tidbits, birthdays, anniversaries, vacations or anything you would like to share with us. I really need to hear from our community.
Make it a great week.
