Greetings from Hickory Corner!
Hickory Corner Community Center on Hwy 225 will celebrate their Homecoming beginning at 11 a.m. this Saturday, April 23. The talented banjo player, Blake Hopper, will entertain at noon followed by a local candidate meet and greet, cake walk, cake auction and silent auction. There will also be an antique tractor show. Come hungry as there will be barbecue chicken plates with baked beans, potato salad and dessert for $10. Hot dogs and chips will also be available. The center will be open Friday at 10 a.m. for anyone who wants to drop off their silent auction items. We are looking forward to great weather and a great turnout. See you there!
We have had lots of rain and thunderstorms. Last Wednesday, strong winds blew a big limb off a tree in my front yard. I spent the next few days picking up small twigs and limbs, but it will be awhile before I can get the big limb cut up and removed. On a positive note, it could have been worse. Looking forward to some warm weather with no storms.
Bonice Martin celebrated Easter with her children and grandchildren (15 family members). She provided an Easter meal and then the little ones enjoyed an egg hunt. It is always fun watching the excitement of little ones while searching for Easter eggs. The egg hunt at JoAnn Clayton’s home scheduled for 2 p.m. was cancelled because the yard was too wet for the little ones to be out.
They had an Easter gathering last year with about 60 family members, and I sure enjoyed watching from across the road as kids ran around the yard looking for eggs. I am sure they were somewhat disappointed this year, but I bet they got to hunt some eggs indoors. Hope your egg hunt was egg-citing!
Remember in prayer Arlan Porter, Ann Bennett, Richy Butler, Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Peggy Lard, William and Eddie Luttrell, and Donna Lynch. Continue to pray for each other, our country and our world. If you would like to add or remove a name from the prayer list, please call me.
The community extends sympathy to the families of Dr. Ron Johnson, Larry Bray and Thelma Patterson Justice (daughter of the late Buford and Flossie Patterson). Also, sympathy to all others who have recently lost loved ones. May God bless and comfort these families.
If you would like to rent the HCC Center for your special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.
