“The way to love anything is to realize that it might be lost.” — G.L. Chesterton
Sympathy is extended to 12 families — Kenneth Wayne Whitehead (5-16-41 to 3-27-23); Brenda Carol Taylor Slaughter (9-13-64 to 3-22-23); Maxine Lucille Lewis McNatt (1-21-20 to 3-20-23); James Robert Healy (6-24-38 to 3-18-23); Hubert Earl Callahan (4-28-36 to 3-18-23); Paul Vernon Watson (9-11-32 to 3-21-23); Shirley Vandiver Sikes, (6-26-44 to 3-14-23); Eric Jason Petty (8-10-72 to 3-14-23); Joseph McKinley Rowsey (6-28-72 to 3-5-23); Monica Camille Campbell Yopp (3-10-80 to 3-4-23); Jetty Marie Martin Roberts (6-21-59 to 3-4-23); and Adam Lee Sweatt (9-25-81 to 3-16-23).
Tender memory of Adam. A rescue dog, Houdini had six puppies in the late 70s. Ruth Nobles Morris called to request her little grandson, Adam, receive a puppy. I agreed. She called the next weekend, demanding the puppy that day. I was not anxious to wean the puppies due to the fact the mother wanted to nurse her puppies longer than average. Ruth said firmly, “I have a little grandson who is wanting his puppy. I am coming for his surprise. I promised.” She came. I followed them home later and snapped a photo of a very handsome blonde child with his new puppy. Ruth wormed the puppy. The child and puppy became dear friends. Ruth’s twin daughters, Judy and Julia, and I are the same age. Judy was proud her mother made her son very happy. They made many miles together. Sadly, I was unable to attend Adam’s service at Unity. I was at an appointment in Jackson. Adam is near his grandmother, mother and aunt. I miss them all. Ruth said, “The load is lighter when everyone lifts.” The remaining family is Uncle Johnny Morris and Aunt Vicki Morris. Uncle by marriage, Jerry McCoy, held Adam’s service.
Prayer requested for Carol Preuss of Loving Paws and her brother, Keith Morris. Continued prayers for Sheila and Sherrill Ryals, Prince Charles Malone, and Brenda Hannah. Paul Schillings and Linda Thompson have thoughts from many. Loving thoughts to Doris Ross, Lounell Grissom, Rebecca Vineyard and Sue Wright.
Jacks Creek Grill and Go had a full parking lot Saturday. A variety of cupcakes matched the crowd of 44 family and friends. Rachel Pusser Brasher (Woodrow) turned 93 years with frosting on her lips. Her children, Linda Jones, Doyle Brasher and Patti Roe, were there. Rachel has six grandkids, 12 great-grands and seven great-great-grands. I am sure that pleases her sister, Irene P. Alexander, in Maryville. March 25, 1930, was a very special day. Jacks Creek was brought back to life with all that frosting!
Reminders – April 1 is Saturday for jokesters, and Easter is April 9. Memory – at JC School Billy Dickson found the “lucky” egg during school egg hunt. Margaret Wright Bingham presented Billy with a silver dollar and a coveted king-size Baby Ruth candy bar in the seventh grade. The following year, Ruth Peddy Wells presented Billy with the same lucky items — another silver dollar and a king-size Butterfinger. He was so quiet about it and did not eat his candy until recess. There was not any hog in Billy. Just a good, kind boy. I was the oink-type. I am going to Billy’s grave and leave him a surprise. I was lucky to have him as a friend.
Brenda Hannah prepared lots of eggs for church where they have simple fun hiding eggs for kids. She got two golden eggs. I was jealous and wanted one. I never did find the lucky egg. At church when young, I watched Daddy’s eyes and his pointing toe. He wanted me to find eggs, so he could hide them at home after dinner. He was so cute, big ole daddy hiding those eggs and hoping I could spot them for fun.
Kindness – Betsy “Bessie” gave me a FHA pie plate she bought because I bragged on it. Extra helpful toward helping me at FHA sale was Gary Puryear and Kim Greene. Patricia Crowe and Miss Howard gave me love with remembrance and squeeze.
Tenderly remember sweet Abby Brooks (2-14-08 to 3-25-18) – she was the real beauty at Country Curls. Abby was a therapy poodle. Mary Harris and Linda Young were special to Abby. I am proud Abby is at “Abby’s Place” near Dusty’s grave. Regina and Mike miss her, but sweet Cody is a precious white poodle who was represented in the Chester County Independent pet calendar contest. Did you buy a calendar? It is special to see love shown for pets. Buy one for your records. Also, our white cat Sneezy Inez (3-30-1992 to 10-25- 2007) was named for my mother-in-law, Robbie Inez – both hopelessly devoted to Don. More pet news, Mary Curtis is happy Bella is spayed. Now, no puppies and no worries for a rescue organization.
Four Tidbits – (1) March 23, 1958, JC School’s new gymnasium fell; (2) Brenda Richardson Clark is older and wiser than me on March 28; (3) Cats make 100 sounds, dogs make 10 sounds and humans make over 500; and (4) six million feral cats roam the USA. Google — Didga the Cat. Amazing talent at age two with awesome cat videos. She can skateboard, play dead, follow directional commands, swim, somersault and stop on a dime and is trained to walk on a harness.
My cat named after Perry Damon Ross is Pere’. She loves her next-door friend, Biddy Webb. They kiss, climb trees branch by branch, picnic together, walk across the bridge together, hide and seek under grounded logs, jump out to surprise and run a race. They like to watch birds and sadly kill some for my lunch. Pere’ really enjoys bringing a mouse for breakfast. She climbs on the house and patiently waits for Poppy to rescue her. While he is putting the ladder away after the kind rescue, she waits for him again on the same roof spot. She was shocked at his refusal to go get the ladder. I told her to go back to her own ladder. She ran to the corner of the porch and jumped down on the top branch of the dogwood tree. Biddy was waiting on her. A feral cat, Kitty “Wounded Knee,” wants to be their friend, but a little hesitant to make it a threesome. He does hide in the Haven to observe their games. Cats are awesome – they do have nine lives like the cat-goddess, Bast; she had nine souls. Cats were adored by Egyptians. Thank goodness I can walk like an Egyptian in front of Donnie – thankfully, he does not chase mice or me! Question – Would you rather have 3 hands or 3 feet???
