With Vickie Ellis

Hello to everyone! I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving and enjoyed all the food and, hopefully, get-togethers with friends and family. I hope everyone made it home safely with all the bad weather that was forecast. We went to my sister Kathy’s home for the holiday. After our parents passed away and we lost Nick, it slowly became a choice of Thanksgiving for her and Christmas for me. She does traditional food, and I do other foods at Christmas. We had 13 there. The food was very good, and it was nice to get together. I hope everyone is thankful every day for every blessing seen and unseen. Next year, we do not know who will be here.
How many of you went out shopping on Black Friday? How many shopped online? I did not go shopping but will do some online I imagine. I am not a big shopper to start with. We have a smaller family, and most like money or gift cards. Sure makes things simpler for many. I like cash and gift cards. It helps any way I go. I must say that a thoughtful piece sometimes is very nice for memories sake.
November is gone, and Christmas will be here soon. I hope to be working in the house the next few days trying to make the home a little festive. It lifts the spirits some, and a little Christmas music helps. There are many things to do this time of year – taking trips to see Christmas lights, strolling through Christmas themed places and watching parades. Our Henderson parade is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 5. I hope everyone enjoys it. The weather is supposed to cooperate for the next week with highs in the 50’s and lows in the 30’s mostly.
We did not have church Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, and it seemed like the longest week without church in the middle. Christmas and New Years fall on Wednesday this year, which will give those that work two split weeks.
Happy birthday to Tessa Hinson, Dec. 2; Garrett Chalk and Kirk Bray, Dec. 3; and Damon Newman, Dec. 6.
Happy anniversary Vickie and James Ellis, Dec. 6.
Please continue to remember these in prayer: Lynn Allen, Jerry Bain, George and Marie Bishop, Charlie Brewer, David Brewer, Janis Brewer, Kay Burton, Maverick Butler, Leon Carroll, Billy Dickson, Bro. Glenn and Judy Harris, Ann Hinson, Lee Nell King, Billy Frank Latham, Sarah McLemore, Nancy McCaskill, Owen McKinney, Andy Maness, Nancy and David Morris, Billy Neal Priddy, Pam Priddy, James Reddin, Dalton Seratt, Adam Wise and Trey Young. Also, please pray for our military, law enforcement, our country and its leaders and first responders. There are many sick and hurting. Please say a prayer for those. Even if you do not know their name, God does.
“Thankfulness” by Diane Ranker Riesen – “We have a million reasons to be thankful every day/yet, sometimes all the ‘busy’ things keep getting in the way/Sometimes at night I tell myself, ‘Tomorrow’ things will change’/but, just when morning wakes me…my plan is rearranged/I planned to start the day real slow -and just soak in ‘the view’/but, then as quickly as I try…it seems there’s more to do/I have to use priorities; and decide which comes first/Try hard to do what’s good and true – and disregard the worst/The things that mean the most in life are truly free to give/too often I get caught up in the ‘costs’ it takes to live/none of what is needed…when the simple things are best/just keep what’s really necessary – give away the rest/Use what God has given you to make each day shine bright/start smiling in the morning and keep caring ‘til the night/A simple hug, a sweet hello…can cause a joyous smile/and make your day worth living – you’ve had it all the while/Our thankfulness is truly shown by how we live each day/happiness is shown by how we love along the way/TRUE joy is found in how you love, and this will help you learn/that everything you give away – you get back in return.”
I pray you all have a wonderful week, and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please call me at 983-0718 or email mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area are hungry for news from home.
Until next week, Happy Trails to You!
