Hello to everyone! I hope you all had a good week. The storms came in early Saturday morning, but we were blessed to be spared from tornadoes. The weather is surely a topic for January. I have iris that are coming up and are about five-six inches tall. I may mulch them. I have one rosebush that has some new green leaves. Of course, we know this is too early for these things. We have had a few birds, mostly wrens and an occasional cardinal. We have sunflower seeds and suet out. Small bushes are around for feelings of security. I am beginning to think that the weather is not cold enough. We have always seen them during very cold weather – I guess I would say our “normal” winter. There is purple moss growing on the bank in the yard next to the senior center. Now, we know this is not normal for January. We shall see what the rest of winter brings.
Many Chester County High School students enjoyed Saturday night at the Winter Ball. There were several pictures on Facebook of those attending and their attire. I am sure they had a lot of fun. A special time. The Ball ended at 10 p.m. as there is an 11 p.m. curfew in town. Now, that was news to me. I did not know this, but I think it is a good thing.
We also enjoyed Sunday morning worship at Sanford Hill Baptist Church. Our grandson Braxton Ellis was baptized! We are so thankful and blessed to see this again in our family. God is GOOD ALL the time!!
Other topics in the news are the Iran attack, the Ukranian plane crash, and Trump’s impeachment. I try to avoid issues that are “touchy” subjects for many. I do not like war, but I believe we must let our adversaries know what we will and will not tolerate. Many people are watching our country. Sometimes we set the bar. We must stop tyranny. Now maybe Iran knows things would be better for their country if they at least tried to remain neutral. The first thing was to jump and accuse the United States. The results after the plane crash show Iran shot the plane down by accident. All those lives lost from other countries. I wonder how they will respond to Iran. Nancy Pelosi is supposed to send the accusations to impeach Trump. I know my feelings on these topics, but I also believe in prayer and God’s will. He knows all, and I have faith and trust everything in His hands. I also believe we are and should be Americans first and foremost. It should not be about party politics but what is best for our country. I am NOT a party person. I do pray for God’s will.
Monday, Jan. 20, is Martin Luther King Day. Schools are out and the banks are closed along with the post office. Hey, many will get another three day weekend. Enjoy them for they are few and far between. Quotes from Dr. King are: “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenges and controversy.” And, “I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.” Dr. King was a very smart man who made a great difference in our country.
Happy birthday to Eva Jones and James Webb, Jan. 13, and Carolyn Whitley, Jan. 18.
Please continue to remember these in prayer Andrew Acred, Lynn Allen, Jerry Bain, Marie Bishop, Charlie Brewer, David Brewer, Maverick Butler, Leon Carroll, Ann Hinson, Danny Jones, Judy Love, Lee Nell King, Nancy McCaskill, Nancy Morris, Billy Neal Priddy, Pam Priddy, James Reddin, Dalton Seratt, Adam Wise, the George Bishop family. Also, please pray for our military, law enforcement, our country and its leaders, and first responders. There are many sick and hurting. Please say a prayer for those. Even if you do not know their name, God does.
“Real” by Diane Ranker Riesen – “I want to show my ‘gratefulness’ on days when I am lost/I want to praise God everyday…His Love is worth the cost/I want to show the strength He gives when I am filled with pain/and be content on days I feel my heart is full of ‘rain’/He’s there for me through everything – and I should do the same/I want to smile and pray to Him…and sing His mighty name/For God stays right here with me – no matter how I feel/I want to keep reminding Him – I KNOW that He is real/He stands so firmly by me, and helps me every day/He guides me where I need to be; and walks me on the way/Thank you, God for all Your love – I cherish all Your Powers/and can’t imagine life without You by me every hour!!!!!!”
I pray you all have a wonderful week, and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please call me at 983-0718 or email mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area are hungry for news from home.
Until next week, Happy Trails to You.
