Hello to all! I am very sorry I did not have my article last week. Although it was written, I forgot to send. I hope everyone had a good week. Not new to anyone – the HEAT! The humidity is so high. I hope you all had a great Fourth of July holiday. Remember the cost of freedom. There are fights in this country right now for freedom of one thing or another. Please pray for God to intervene in all our shortcomings.
We had five inches of rain at our house the other night. The first night was horrible. The thunder and lightning was horrendous. I could not sleep and was up until about 2:30 a.m. I could not believe our garden survived, and our trees did, too. I was very thankful. James had to throw away a couple of tomatoes that were splitting on the bottom; he said that they were rotten. This usually comes from too much water – per Google. Oh well. We have plenty growing. Our squash is plentiful. We bought some sweet corn at a great price and put up 50 ears. It was not hard, just time consuming. My hand was beginning to wear out after cutting corn off all those ears, but yum-yum for later. We need to get 50 more, and that will be enough for just the two of us. We had a blackberry cobbler this week. It was delicious. Our okra should be coming soon. I like okra boiled or fried.
Our birds are still visiting, but the yellow finches have left. I am hoping they come back. We had one blue bird, and it seems he is gone. We are seeing occasional cardinals. Sunflowers are coming up as a result of the birds dropping seeds when eating. I think this is a reward for feeding them. The flowers are growing, but I have not seen very many butterflies yet. We do have dragonflies and those ugly dirt dobbers. I do not like flying insects in my house.
If you go to Jackson, they now have a mandatory mask law. No mask, no service. This does not apply to church services. The last report I saw stated that our county has gone from 12 to 30 cases of COVID-19. I hope everyone stays safe. Just remember to wash your hands, use antibacterial gel and a mask if you desire. I would rather wear a mask than risk being sick or making someone else sick.

I apologize if it seems I write about things happening around here, but unless I get news from others, this is what I have to go on. I hope those of you that read it find some enjoyment in the article.
