Hello to everyone!
I hope you all had a good week. The topic of the day is HOT! The temperature Sunday was at 90 degrees, and with the humidity, it felt like 100. Now that is hot! The weather forecast until Aug. 1 does not show the temperatures getting below 92 degrees. We are supposed to have some rain this week.
Our garden is doing fine. We are getting some tomatoes with many green and waiting to turn okra and squash coming in regularly. Our peppers are slow. We have put up another 50 ears of corn; that makes 100 ears for us with 50 being cut off. James made some muscadine jelly, and we have two jars of strawberry freezer jam. The birds are visiting our feeders as usual, and two yellow finches have returned. They like thistle. A bird has roosted in a birdhouse that James made for me. I have seen a couple of butterflies, and the grass grows fast overnight, but I wish I had a rake for our grass we mowed.
I wish all the farmers good luck with their crops. This heat is horrible. I must say it does seem corn is thriving. I do not see much cotton being planted the last few years. The price must be down.
We were saddened by the passing of Mr. Owen McKinney last Thursday. He was a very sweet, kind Christian man. He will be greatly missed. Please pray for his wife Doris and their children.
Congratulations to Eva and Alvin Jones. They are the proud great-grandparents to number eight, great-grandson Elliott.
The Chester County Barbeque Festival has been cancelled due to COVID-19.
Please pray for all the teachers, school staff and children as they return to school. Everything will be different. I can not imagine going to school and wearing a mask. The cleaning and disinfecting of the school every day will be more rigorous. God be with us all.

“Help Yourself to Happiness” by Helen Steiner Rice – “Everybody, everywhere/seeks happiness, it’s true/But finding it and keeping it/seems difficult to do/Difficult because we think/that happiness is found/Only in the places where/wealth and fame abound/And so we go on searching/palaces of pleasure/Seeking recognition and monetary treasure/Unaware that happiness/is just a state of mind/Within the reach of everyone/who takes time to be kind/For in making others happy/we will be happy, too/For the happiness you give away/returns to shine on you.”
I pray you all have a wonderful week, and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home.
Until next week, Happy Trails to You.
