Hello to everyone! The skies were blue again with white, puffy clouds on Sunday, and the trees are greening up. I can not say the same for Saturday – whew! It was pouring rain, hailing with winds blowing hard and lightning – I thought I was in the Wizard of Oz! It would come on slowly then be fierce and then leave only to return again. Our rain gauges showed at least five inches of rain. I am thankful we did not have any damage, but I can not say the same for everyone. We observed a mangled mess of tin at Middlefork. There were lots of trees uprooted and a house and another building destroyed. WBBJ had their hands full Saturday night, trying to stay on top of all the minute by minute changes. Sunday was cool at 59 degrees with a slight breeze and partly sunny. The weather forecast this week calls for a chance of rain Wednesday and Thursday. This is after destruction in Alabama a few days earlier. Now many are dealing with flooding after this severe weather. Praying for all those affected by the storm.
This past Sunday was Palm Sunday. It is the first day of Holy Week that takes place the Sunday before Easter and commemorates Jesus Christ’s entry into Jerusalem. Palm branches were placed in his path before his arrest on Holy Thursday and his crucifixion on Good Friday. Day 2: Monday, Jesus cleared the temple of moneychangers. Day 3: Tuesday, Jesus went to the Mount of Olives – he spoke to his companions on the importance of faith. Religious leaders were upset at Jesus for establishing himself as a spiritual authority. They planned to ambush him and have him arrested, but he evaded them, left the city and went with his disciples to the Mount of Olives where he prophesied of the destruction of Jerusalem and the end of the age. This is also the day Judas negotiated to betray Jesus. Day 4: Holy Wednesday does not mention anything happening this day, but a possibility of resting in Bethany. Day 5: Passover and Last Supper on Maundy Thursday, Peter and John were sent ahead to the Upper Room in Jerusalem to make preparations for the Passover Feast. Jesus washed his disciples feet after sunset in preparation to share the Passover Feast. This was a humble act of service representing how believers are to love one another. Day 6: Trial, Crucifixion, Death and Burial on Good Friday, Judas betrayed Jesus and was overcome with remorse and hanged himself on Friday morning. After multiple unlawful trials, Jesus was sentenced to death by crucifixion, one of the most horrible and disgraceful methods of capital punishment known at the time. A crown of thorns was placed on his head. He was forced to carry his own cross to Calvary and Roman soldiers nailed him to the wooden cross. Jesus’ first words were,”Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” His last words were, “Father, into Your hands I commend my spirit.” Day 7: Saturday in the Tomb, Jesus’ body lay in its tomb where it was guarded by Roman soldiers. When the Sabbath ended at 6 p.m. that day, Christ’s body was prepared for burial with spices. Jesus Christ paid the penalty for sin by offering the perfect, spotless sacrifice. He conquered death, both spiritually and physically, securing our eternal salvation. Day 8: Resurrection Sunday, Jesus arose and made at least five appearances. The first was Mary Magdalene as indicated in Mark, then Peter, two disciples on the road to Emmaus and later that day to all the other disciples except Thomas. These eyewitness accounts in the Gospels provide what Christians believe to be undeniable evidence that Jesus’ resurrection did happen. I pray this gives more insight to the week leading up to Easter in part and that everyone would think about the horrible week Jesus went through, knowing he was facing death for us all because he loves us. He will never leave us. Never forget that. Our family has been through a tremendous amount of pain, sadness and disappointments. Our son was killed at age 14 in 1997, and there are many other instances in our lives that seem to discourage and depress, but we know that God cares, loves us and is always there for us. We know we are blessed and are very thankful for what Jesus did for us throughout His life and on that final day, only to be raised again and to sit at the right hand of God, His Father for eternity. I pray everyone will enjoy the blessings of Easter and the LOVE that it brings. God bless.
Happy birthday to Karsyn Knipper, Bro. Glenn Harris and Ann Pusser, 3-30, and Jennifer Williams and Claire Garrison, 4-1.
