Hello to everyone!
It seems this holiday slipped up on me before I knew it. I knew it was coming but did not work it into the correct issue of this column. Memorial Day will have come and gone by the time you read this, but I hope everyone remembered the reason for the holiday. It is for honoring and mourning those who have died while serving the military in the United States Armed Forces. There are many who never came home from various wars. Wives, parents and children left to carry on without them for the freedoms we have today. History may delete things, but we must NEVER forget. God bless all who have suffered from loss of a beloved military person and know they will ALWAYS be REMEMBERED!
I hope you all enjoyed a long weekend if you work and/or family if you/they were able to visit. Many are traveling this weekend to see family or have a short, mini-vacation prior to waiting on July 4. I am so glad I am not an air traffic controller. Praying for God’s watchful eye on everyone. Also, many children will use fireworks. I hope they are supervised and cautious. You know many children and some adults take unnecessary risks.
I am sure the children are so glad to be out of school, and I am glad for them. It has been an exasperating year with COVID, masks and now vaccines for school age. I see on the news that the numbers are down tremendously, and I pray it stays that way. It is God’s doing and no one else’s. The scientists would not have been able to develop the vaccine if God had not intervened. We do not know what the future holds, and I am sure many lessons were learned by all during this past trying year.
Happy birthday to Marla Davidson and Devin Scott, 5-30, and Chuck Berry, 5-31.
Happy anniversary to Doris and Donald Rowlett, 6-1.
Please continue to remember these in prayer Denise Armstrong, Sheila Berry, Charlie Brewer, Robert and Joyce Brewer, J.T. Butler, Jackie Chambers, Wood Deming, Zack Eaton, Rachel Ellington, Alice and Buddy Stovall, Nancy McCaskill, Jimmy Moore, LaVelle Page, Pam Priddy, Donald Rowlett, Jim Ruth, Dalton Seratt, Missy Seratt, Jo Willis and Bruce Wright. Also, please pray for our military, law enforcement, our country and its leaders, those affected by COVID and first responders. There are many sick and hurting. Please say a prayer for those; even if you do not know their name, God does. Prayer is not an obligation; it is the greatest privilege we have. Pray yourself through each day.
“Memorial Day” by Diane Ranker Riesen – “In heat you walked the dusty miles – in cold you did the same/so many of you helped us…and we don’t know your name/You each fought hard to keep us free and strived through haunting days/I cannot fathom all your pain…while fighting through that haze/You offered all your strength for us and witnessed horrid sights/How can we ever thank you for those years you fought the fight/All the soldiers standing firm – no matter what the cost/military HEROES through each trial and every loss/The Marines and pilots so unknown…and, oh so many more/who bravely held our country safe while so much pain was bore/We honor you with gratefulness – but still that can’t compare/to everything you offered us – enduring wars unfair/’Thank you’ cannot cover all the selflessness you gave/as we remained back in our homes while hopeful flags were waved/There will never be a way – although our hearts can try/to ever give due honor….to all who lived and died.”
I pray you all have a wonderful week, and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home.
Until next week, Happy Trails to You.
