Hello to everyone! I hope you have a good week. I am writing this news on Saturday, Feb. 5. The sun is shining, and the temperature is 38 degrees. I am thankful we avoided the big ice storm, although I know there were some accidents from the frozen precipitation we did get or that froze overnight. I would enjoy seeing snow, but I would not cry if the bad weather was over. Also, these cold nights will surely hit the pocketbook! We keep our thermostat set to 70 degrees. James wears a light jacket even with that temperature. We set it on 72-74 in the summer. He can stand heat better than cold. We have been blessed with chickadees and cardinals.
I will say after these 10 plus days from COVID that I do not want to go through it again. I am thankful we did not need the hospital. The news media says the numbers are going down, but it seems I am hearing of one or more every day. Do not assume everyone is well. I know that from experience; practice social distancing, wear a mask and use antibacterial gel. Have children wash their hands as soon as they come home, regardless of age. Stay safe and warm and prayers are with you all.
Remember that Monday, Feb. 14, will be Valentine’s Day. You may want to pick up a card, candy or flowers for your special someone. Handmade gifts or handwritten notes of love go a LONG way! I used to get candy for the kids and grandkids. Just better to be prepared, and women need to start dropping hints if you want to be remembered. Sometimes, men get sidetracked, and it will be too late. Also, do not forget to buy for your significant other. Everyone likes to be remembered, and the kiddos love to get valentines at school.
Happy birthday to Branson Butler, 2-6; Tiffany Holder and Sharon Connor, 2-7,; Rodney Butler, 2-8; and De Witt Swayne and Judy Stanfill, 2-12.
Please continue to remember these in prayer – Randy Baker, Sheila Berry, Robert and Joyce Brewer, J.T. and Jeanette Butler, John Butler, Jackie Chambers, Boyd Cupples, Maryann Lackie, Norris McCaskill, Sarah and Don McLemore, LaVelle Page, David Parchman, Pam Priddy, Jesse Pugh, Todd Rencher, Jake Richardson, Gina Robinson, Bro. Larry Rose, Kristi Taylor, David Tucker, Tony Tucker and Adam Wise. Also, please pray for our military, law enforcement, our country and its leaders, those affected by COVID and first responders. There are many sick and hurting. Please say a prayer; even if you do not know their name, God does. Prayer is not an obligation; it is the greatest privilege we have. Pray yourself through each day.
7-UP Cobbler Bake – You will need two cans (21 ounce size) cherry pie filling, one package (16 ounce) yellow cake mix (stirred with a fork to break up any clumps of mix) and one can (12 ounce) 7-up. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Pour the cherry pie filling into the bottom of a 9×13 inch dish (sprayed with nonstick spray). Sprinkle the cake mix (dry) over the top of the pie filling. Slowly pour the 7-Up over the cake mix. Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
“There’s no storm that God won’t carry you through. No bridge that God won’t help you cross. No battle that God won’t help you through. No heartache that God can’t help you let go of. He is so much bigger than anything you will ever face. Leave everything in His hands. Embrace each day confidently, knowing that He will take care of you.” – unknown
I pray you all have a wonderful week, and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home. Until next week, Happy Trails to You.
