Greetings from Hickory Corner!
Our days are getting shorter, and our temperatures are getting colder, especially at night. I do not like either one of these things! It is definitely time to crank the heat and to put on a warm coat when going out. I have a feeling warm weather has left us for awhile.
Everyone that attended the Phillips School reunion at the HCC Center enjoyed themselves. There was plenty of good food and all kinds of delicious desserts. I heard someone say they ate dessert first! Edith Sills brought her special homemade peanut brittle and was passing out bags to share. Thanks to Philip and Judy Cranford for hosting the event.
The flags flying on the courthouse lawn was a beautiful sight. I attended the Veterans Day Service honoring our veterans last Friday, Nov. 11, held at City Hall. I was happy to see that many young students attended also. It was a great program. Thank you to all who have served our country. God Bless America and our veterans.
My husband James was a Korean Veteran serving two years (1952-1954) in the U.S. Army. He and R.D Smith shipped out together, and they came home together. It was a dangerous and scary time during the war, as it is in every war. James and R.D. did their basic training in Camp Rucker Alabama. R.D’s wife and I both had an apartment there for a while until our husbands came back home for their two week furlough before being shipped out.
Reminder: There will be a meeting at the HCC Center at 6 p.m. Nov. 17. Plans will be discussed for the Christmas party which has been scheduled for noon on Dec. 10. So folks, mark your calendars now and watch for more information coming soon. We welcome all to join the meeting and help plan the Christmas gathering.
If you would like to rent the HCC Center for a special event or for your Christmas party, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.

Sympathy to Brother Gerald Smith, Pastor of New Home Church, on the loss of his wife, Linda Graves Smith, who passed Nov. 5, 2022. Prayers go out to Brother Smith and his family.
Remember in prayer Richy Butler, Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Peggy Lard, William and Eddie Luttrell and Donna Lynch. Continue to pray for each other, our country and our world. Also, sympathy to all those who have recently lost loved ones.
