Hello dear readers! I hope you all are well and that all the mothers out there were celebrated handsomely this past Mother’s Day! I am happy to be back with you all after a series of busy weeks raising a young family and trying to juggle all the tasks life presents. I am sure many of you can relate!
I have lots of interesting and exciting news items this week! Many of you may have noticed the new pop of orange in the Silerton Park. Big thanks goes to Ricky Wilson for constructing the long awaited slide. It makes a marvelous addition to the ensemble of play equipment in the children’s play area. Thank you also to the aldermen and mayor for their continual work on park progression.
Several churches recently celebrated Decoration Day. Rob and Amy Wade and Kevin and Debbie Wade from Washington, Ill., traveled down for Decoration Day at Palestine. They also visited Cave’s Springs Cemetery. Rob and Kevin are sons of M. H. and Ann (Lambert) Wade.  They enjoyed being with family at Larry and Anita Lambert’s Cajun crawfish fest on Saturday night.
The centennial committee continues making plans for the Silerton centennial celebration. Donations for the event would be appreciated. The tentative date will be in October. More details will follow as plans are finalized. You can also follow on Silerton-Photographs from the Past on Facebook. If you are interested in donating, I have included a list below of items requested to be displayed at the city hall. Items will be under close supervision and some items in glass showcases.
Donation items needed: political items; signs; business items (plus any items relating to its stores); report cards; school books; any local diplomas, awards, etc; score cards; game programs; programs from any other events (music, plays, etc.); household items from the past (kitchen, household antiques, etc.); maypole dress; any uniforms; portraits; railroad/depot items; homemade clothes, quilts, etc.; and small farm equipment, tools and agricultural items.
In upcoming events, be sure to mark your calendars for Piney Grove Baptist spring revival with Bro. Tommy Warner starting May 25.
