Silerton looked so beautiful with the white dusting we had recently. Frankie and Mary Lynn Lambert drove through a winter wonderland on their way back home from Illinois. They traveled to Washington, Ill., to attend the funeral of Frankie’s brother -in-law, Hughlon Wade. Hughlon was the husband of Ann (Lambert) Wade. Ann was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clay Lambert. She spent her childhood years in the Silerton area and attended Silerton School. Mary Lynn said, “After the funeral, Ann talked about Silerton and recalled memories from her past. She married Hughlon when she was still a teenager. They traveled to Corinth, Miss., to be married. Shortly after marriage, he joined the Navy during the Korean War and was stationed in San Diego, Calif. After his discharge, they settled in Washington, Ill., and reared seven children. Every year they loaded the kids in the car to travel to Tennessee for vacation. Hughlon’s family lived around the Phillips School neighborhood. Their children tell the funniest stories of their travels. One of the younger children rode on the space between the back seat and the back windshield. Car interiors were larger in those days so one child would sleep on each side of the big hump behind the front seat.
Ann and Hughlon attended every Lambert family reunion starting in the late 70’s. The last few years their son, Rob and his wife, Amy, drove them down. They were unable to attend in 2020. Ann always enjoyed seeing the extended family and friends. One of her memories was studying hard to beat Bill Siler on test scores. She said she had to work hard, and Bill usually outscored her. She and Hughlon were living in Reflections Memory Care. Ann will continue to reside there.”
Condolences to the family of Jim Sedberry who passed away on Jan. 3. Jim and his wife Mary Sedberry owned a store in Silerton for several years.
