I hope everyone is having a wonderful October! If you are looking for something festive to do, I highly recommend visiting Falcon Ridge Farms in Toone. They have a pumpkin patch and tons of family friendly activities. My brother, Jordan Smith, and Otto’s uncle, Hiram Ireton, visited from Seattle last week to meet Willow. We all met up with my sister, Sarah Smith, and took Otto and Willow to the farm. Otto loved the playgrounds, petting zoo and especially the bounce floor in the pavilion. They have some great photo booths if you are looking to get some family fall pictures. Willow received a free pumpkin as a newborn with the promise to return next year!
Mary Lynn Lambert shares some fun news this week from Silerton Baptist Church. They hosted a game day on Saturday, Oct. 9. “Bob Kramer was the chef for the day. He received lots of praise for the grilled hotdogs and hamburgers. Ladies were responsible for the desserts. Children enjoyed corn hole. Adults enjoyed pitching horseshoes, bocce ball and tossing washers. Some members enjoyed competing at spinners.
While tossing washers, there were many memories told about tossing washers at the Silerton store. Bill Mayfield shared the memories of how he had eight silver dollars as a child. He carried them to the store to be used instead of washers. When players finished for the day, they carried the silver dollars into the store and placed in a special place. Bill grew up and left Silerton for college and then pursued his career. Approximately 20 years later, Jimmy Wiley, owner of the store, told Bill he should get his silver dollars since there was no longer anyone tossing them. When Bill picked them up, he counted seven pieces. He related how he feels someone tossed a silver dollar, and it rolled into the dirt and grass around the holes that were dug in the ground. Bill feels that collecting the silver pieces is a great testimony of the character of the people in that day. Everyone had a great day and truly enjoyed fellowshipping with each other.”
I loved learning Bill’s silver dollar story and how the memory came full circle with the coins returning to him. If you have a similar story to tell, please do not hesitate to contact me by phone or email me at tatteredthread@gmail.com.
