Condolences to the family of Wendy Butler. Wendy is the daughter of Nancy (Lambert) and Norman Hatch. She lived in Swanton, Ohio. Condolences also to the family of Chuck White. Chuck lived in Silerton as a young boy and attended Silerton School and later attended Central High School. I attended church with Chuck at New Bethel Baptist Church and loved to talk with him. He led quite an interesting life. His obituary on the Shackelford website details a few of his accomplishments.
Prayers needed for Gary Siler, who is experiencing health issues. Continue to remember Ann Hinson, Sarah Chandler and Norma Jean Sedberry.
The Silerton Fire Department Annual Bake Sale will be held Friday, Dec. 20, at the fire station and Saturday, Dec. 21, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Bolivar Tractor Supply Store. Goodies may be purchased from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday. Call Donna Waldrip at 658-7889 if you have a special request.
Silerton Baptist Church will be hosting a Christmas party at 5:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Dec. 14. Finger fare and party treats will be served. There will be a gift exchange, so each lady should bring a gift suitable for a woman, and each man should bring a gift suitable for a man. There will be many games to play.
Piney Grove Baptist Church will have a Christmas musical program at 11 a.m. Dec. 22 for morning worship. During the night service, they will have a potluck meal and gift exchange.
For the next few weeks, I have asked several senior citizens from our area to share a bit of wisdom they have gained by living in their eight decades of life.
A big shout out to Bill Siler, who happens to be the oldest man in our area, for his cooperation in answering my questions.
Bill stated that he believes to live a life of integrity and a life of strong morals, one should treat others as you expect to be treated and to help people less fortunate. Relying on God to help you accomplish these traits is a must. Bill stated that each of us has a responsibility to obey the laws, participate in the democratic process, respect law officers and respect the rights and beliefs of others and their opinions. When a crisis occurs in your life, ask God to give you the strength and wisdom to do what is right. Bill said, “I realize most people don’t want advice because as a younger person I didn’t want anyone telling me what to do until I went to the Army and learned that I didn’t have any choices.” He offers the following suggestion for the younger generation – before you start a habit, look at other people and see where that habit has taken them.
