HAROLD SPAIN – MARCH 26, 1957 – JULY 7, 2024
Harold Wayne Spain, 67, beloved father, grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully in
his home surrounded by family on July 7, 2024. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, July
13, from 3-6 p.m. at the Enville Community Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be
made to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation https://www.npcf.us/donate/, reflecting his lifelong
commitment to helping others.
He was a man of integrity and kindness, known for his unwavering support for his family and his
generous spirit towards everyone he encountered. His children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of
his life. He will be remembered for his warm smile, his hearty laugh and his ability to make everyone feel
welcomed and valued. He touched the lives of many, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the
privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, wisdom, and dedication to family,
friends, and community that will forever be remembered. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that his
love and legacy will continue to live on through his family and all who loved him.
He is survived by his three daughters, Annette Spain of Henderson, Audrey (Joshua) Trammell of
Enville and Ashley (Joshua) Scales of Smyrna; one loving son, Harold (Ann) Spain of Weseca, Minn.; five
grandsons, Zander Spain, Austin Spain, Ryan Trammell, Jayden Williams and Gavin Scales; a
granddaughter, Gabriella Scales; one brother, Ron Spain of Mount Juliet; a sister, Barbara Spain of
Downers Grove, Ill.; two nieces; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Josalyn Juleanna Scales, and his parents, Lee and Louise
Edmundson Spain.
HATTIE ASHWORTH – Feb. 6, 1936 – July 6, 2024
Hattie Myrle Ward Ashworth, 88, of Henderson passed away July 6, 2024, at her daughter’s home.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – East Main Chapel with Jimmy Mangrum and Glen Ward officiating, and burial will follow at Henderson City Cemetery.
The family received friends at East Main Chapel from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday and from noon until 3 p.m. service time Thursday.
She was born Feb. 6, 1936, in Maud, Miss., the daughter of the late Homer and Emma Lee Lott Ward. She was raised in Hollywood, Miss., and she attended school in Tunica County, Miss.
She was married to Roy C. Smith, Sr. in 1954 and later married to Jim Ashworth in 1977. She lived in Memphis and Houston, Texas, and moved to Henderson in 1992. Mr. Ashworth died on July 27, 2010. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Henderson.
She is survived by a son, Roy (Deby Lynn) Smith, Jr. of Eupora, Miss.; two daughters, Rhonda (David) Bartsch of Henderson and Leesa Settle of Beech Bluff; two brothers, Wilfred (Lynn) Ward of Doniphan, Mo., and Ricky (Karen) Ward of Collins, Miss.; and two sisters, Ruth (Jimmy) Mangrum of McCool, Miss., and Cora Clemmer of Spring, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James “Jim” Merin Ashworth (2010); a daughter, Monna Bowers; two brothers, Homer Edward Ward and Thurman Ward; and one sister, Elnora Dupree.
Genny Martin – July 5, 2024
Genny Sue Campbell Martin, 77, of Crump passed away Friday evening July 5, 2024, at Regional One Memphis.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – East Main Chapel with Kevin Roeder officiating.
Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery at Enville.
The family will receive friends at East Main Chapel from noon until 2 p.m. service time on Saturday.
She was born in Prichard, Miss., and grew up at Enville, the daughter of the late Jesse Everett and Addie Mae Campbell. She attended schools at Enville and Henderson. She worked at Motorola in Chicago before moving to Milledgeville. She had also worked at HIS at Saltillo. She worked for several years as a cashier at Walmart in Savannah and Selmer, where she never met a stranger. She married Jim Martin in 2007, and they made their home at Crump. Mr. Martin passwed away in 2017.
She loved gardening and flowers, enjoyed shopping for clothes and shoes and loved “putting the entire outfit together.” She and Mr. Martin enjoyed motorcycle riding. She was a member of the Enville Church of Christ.
She is survived by a sister Kaye Ritter of Enville; nieces and nephews, Melinda Johnston, Melissa (Ricky) Holder, Alicia (Jared) Melton and Jesse Pruett; several great-nieces and nephews; and her longtime loving companion, Jimmy Ferguson of Selmer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister Nancy Campbell Pruett.
ALVIN STEWART – Dec. 9, 1964 – July 3, 2024
Alvin Rayburn Stewart, 59, of Bruce, Miss., passed away July 3, 2024, at his home.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with Bro. Keith Brown officiating.
Burial followed at New Friendship Cemetery.
The family received friends at Crook Avenue noon-2 p.m. service time Sunday.
He was born Dec. 9, 1964, in Jackson and grew up in Jonesboro, Ark., the son of June Webb Stewart Findley and the late Chester Rayburn Stewart. He graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1983 and received two degrees from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, a BA in Accounting and a BA in Business Administration. He worked in various places in Missouri and Alabama and had lived in Bruce, Miss., the last 20 years, working as a cost accountant for Hayworth, a furniture manufacturer.
He held season tickets for ASU Football since his graduation from there. He enjoyed trips to Florida and loved being with his family.
He is survived by his mother, June Marie Webb Stewart Findley of Jonesboro, Ark.,; a sister, April Marie Stewart of Jonesboro, Ark..; and uncles and aunts, John and Charlotte Webb, James and Rene Webb, Keith and Janice Brown, Julia Parchman, Suzanne Stewart and Kay Stewart.
Rusty Haltom – Sept. 26, 1978 – July 3, 2024
Rusty Wayne Haltom, 45, passed away July 3, 2024 at his home in Henderson. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 5, at Hearn Chapel Cemetery with Anthony Rowland officiating.
He was born in Jackson on Sept. 26, 1978.
