HAROLD HURST – July 4, 1939 – May 13, 2024
Harold Newman Hurst, 84, of Henderson passed away May 13, 2024, at Wellington Manor in Jackson, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Randy Cooper officiating and burial at the Montezuma Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue from noon-2 p.m. Sunday.
He was born on July 4, 1939, in the Woodville Community of Chester County, the son of the late Arnold Wilburn Hurst and Charles Elvie and Gladys Alene Roland Hurst Holmes. He was a 1958 graduate of Chester County High School and Memphis State University in 1964 and received his master’s degree from Auburn University in 1969.
He began working in 1969 as a Wildlife Biologist for Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency in Nashville. In 1974, he was promoted to Regional Manager for Upper East Tennessee. In 1982 he moved to Jackson as Regional Manager for the West Tennessee area until he retired in 1999.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Henderson, serving as finance chairman for seven years, Sunday School Superintendent and Adult Sunday School Teacher. He also served on numerous Boards and Committees of the Church.
He loved to travel and had been to several foreign countries, as well as all over the United States. He loved fishing, quail hunting and flying his own airplane.
He is survived by his wife Carlin of 65 years, (April 25, 1959); a daughter, Stephanie (Frank) Wolfe of Medina; one grandson, Kaleb (Chelsea) Hurst Wolfe; two great-granddaughters, Aubrey Ellen and Amelia Dawn Wolfe all of White House; and a sister, Shirley Hurst Burkeens of Stantonville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Roy Travis Hurst and Charles Leon Holmes.
KELLY WHITE – Jan. 23, 1960 – May 8, 2024
Kelly Jean Barrett White, 64, of Henderson passed away May 8, 2024, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Bro. Glenn Harris officiating. Burial followed at Cave Springs Cemetery. The family received friends at Crook Avenue noon-2 p.m. service time on Friday.
She was born Jan. 23, 1960, in Jackson, the daughter of the late William Henry and Johnnie Lou Robison Barrett. She grew up in the Montezuma Community of Chester County and was a 1978 graduate of Chester County High School.
She worked for Chester County Sportswear, Premier Manufacturing and then Eagle Warehouse retiring in December of 2023 due to health conditions. She earned a Bachelor Degree in Education from Freed-Hardeman University. She married Kenneth White on Dec. 21, 2007. They made their home in Henderson.
She was a talented painter and quilter, enjoyed watching horror movies, fishing, camping and being outdoors, especially in the summers. She was a sports fan and enjoyed watching the Memphis Tigers and the UT Vols. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Tate and Anna Crouse.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Lee White of Henderson; a daughter, Sara (fiancé, Tegan Burks) Crouse of Henderson; two stepsons, Michael White of Beech Bluff and Kenton White of Henderson; two grandchildren, Tate Crouse and Anna Crouse; one brother, Bruce Barrett of Decaturville; and a sister, Wanda Key of Jackson.
LEWIS ‘LOUEY’ WILKINS, JR. – Jan. 27, 1940 – May 13, 2024
Lewis Homer Wilkins, Jr., 84, of Henderson passed away May 13, 2024, at Southern Oaks Assisted Living. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – East Main Chapel with Bro. Scott Dunaway and Bro. Shane Connor officiating. Burial will follow at Center Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at East Main Chapel from 5-8 p.m. on Friday.
He was born Jan. 27, 1940 in Chester County, the son of the late Lewis Homer Wilkins, Sr. and Opal Roma Tidwell Wilkins. He grew up in Enville and was a 1959 graduate of Chester County High School.
He worked at Owens Corning in Jackson for over the last 20 years of his working career, retiring about 40 years ago. He took care of his mother for several years. He enjoyed and was very good at playing pool. He also enjoyed visiting friends for breakfast at Brenda’s Kitchen.
He loved spending time with his family and loved his nieces and nephews like they were his own children. He was a Baptist in belief.
He is survived by a brother, Jerry (Patsy) Wilkins of Finger; four sisters, Bobbie Thurmond of Jacksonville, Fla., Joyce Hoskins of San Antonio, Texas, Peggy Wilkins of Memphis and Cathy (Joe) Walker of Selmer; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harold Wilkins.
PATTIE HEARN – March 21, 1936 – May 10, 2024
Lessie Priscilla ‘Pattie’ Horner Hearn, 88, of Henderson passed away May 10, 2024, at her home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 17, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue.
Burial will follow at Pleasant Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. service time Friday.
She was born March 21, 1936, in Jackson, the daughter of the late Ira E. and Lessie P. Wagster Horner. She attended Madison County Schools and graduated from Northside High School in 1954. She then attended West TN Business College. She was married to Cecil E. Hearn of Chester County in 1954. They lived in Memphis for 34 years where Mr. Hearn worked for AT&T and she worked part time as a manufacturer representative as an office clerk. They moved back to Chester County in 1991. She was a member of the Deanburg Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Michael W. Hearn of Henderson; three grandchildren, Christopher (Linda), Austin and Matthew Hearn; and a great-grandson, Jasper Hearn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cecil E. Hearn; a daughter, Sharon Kay Kronquist; one granddaughter, Stacy Kronquist; and a sister, Margaret Childress.
Glenda Cardwell – April 29, 1951 – May 4, 2024
Glenda G. Cardwell, 73 years, and 5 days, departed this life on May 4, 2024 in Tupelo, Miss.
Services were held at 11 a.m. May 11 at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah in Savannah, with Gene Hanna officiating. Burial followed in the Milledgeville Cemetery at Milledgeville.
She was born on April 29, 1951 in Henderson County, the daughter of the late Helen Vernell Davis Lott.
She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for 15 years at Hardin County Nursing Home in Savannah.
In her previous years, she worked at Crye-Leike Realty, as a Executive Secretary for Q-Mart Corporation, as a Licensed Cosmetologist, a Licensed Bondsman, a Dispatcher in Florida at the Airport and Humane Society. She was a member of Saltillo Methodist, Shiloh Methodist, and Apostolic Church. She loved collecting different items, yard selling, the beach, horses, and animals. She especially loved being around children.
She is survived by her nephews, David Farley of Finger and Jeff Howell and Jesse Record both of Jacks Creek; nieces, Tiffany Adkins of Henderson, Michelle Julian of Counce and Britaney Copeland of Jacks Creek; sisters, Sandra Holt and Teresa Lott, both of Jacks Creek, Tennessee; and several great nieces and nephews.
