Joe Fry was born May 15, 1883 to Joe and Mary Edwards Fry in Henderson. On Dec. 26, 1907, he married Helen Edwards, the daughter of John and Celeste Buckley Edwards of the Luray community. Joe Fry started working at the Chester County Bank in 1912. When the bank merged with the Farmers and Merchants Bank, he was employed as cashier until his retirement in 1942. He was a member of the Henderson Masonic Lodge 485 and received his 50-year pin in 1958. He served on the city of Henderson Board of Alderman and was a Chairman of the Henderson Board of Education for many years. Mr. Fry also held extensive farming interests in the county.
Helen taught Sunday school classes for many years at the Methodist Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star and was an active member of the Ingleside Book Club for several years. She died at their home at 309 Crook Ave. on June 20, 1958, after several years of failing health. Joe Fry died on April 12, 1959, at the Webb-Williamson Hospital in Jackson, where he had been a patient for three months.
Joe and Helen are currently buried at the Henderson City Cemetery.
