
Mrs. Mitchell departed from this life late Monday evening, Oct. 3, 2022, at Bolivar General Hospital. She was the widow of Mike Mitchell who passed away on Sept. 23, 2013. Services were at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Internment followed at the Mitchell Family Cemetery in Bolivar. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar provided professional arrangements. Memorials may be sent to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
She was born in Madison County, the daughter of the late John K. Hughes and Anna Ruth Hagemann Hughes. Prior to moving to Hardeman County 57 years ago, she lived in the Montezuma community of Chester County. She married Mr. Charles Michael “Mike” Mitchell on Oct. 16, 1963. They were married 49 years at the time of his death on Sept. 23, 2013.
She was primarily a homemaker who enjoyed cooking for family and friends. She worked for a short time at the ACS office in Henderson. She also worked at the Developmental Center and, for 10 years, at Ross Equipment Company, both in Bolivar. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading, sewing, caring for her flowers, gardening and travel.
She is survived by two sons, John Mitchell and Charles Michael Mitchell, Jr., both of Bolivar; one sister, Carol Curry of Waianae, Hawaii; two brothers, John K. Hughes, III, of Hartsville and Bobby Gene Quint Hughes of North Carolina; and a granddaughter, Megan Mitchell of Hawthorne, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three brothers, Ronald, Gerald and John K. Hughes, Jr.
