The Chester County Board of Education met Tuesday evening, May 14, at Jacks Creek Elementary School, with all members in attendance.
Jacks Creek Principal Todd Lewis presented the Spotlight/Celebration for the school, sharing events and activities taking place at Jacks Creek. He also discussed the students’ competitive participation in completing computer programing courses online at www.code.org. Many students have completed courses beyond primary level, some high school level.
The board discussed and unanimously approved the first draft of the 2024-2025 General Purpose Budget. The budget will next be presented to the Chester County Commission for approval.
The 2024-2025 Strategic Plan was approved unanimously with a vision of “Each Student, Each Day,” a mission to inspire students to reach their potential and a three-prong belief system which states, “Students are our priority; A positive school culture is essential for learning; and Education is a partnership among students, families, staff and community.” The plan also states a number of goals and identifies specific strategies to achieve each goal.
A new district-wide Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) position was approved unanimously. The position is to begin as a part-time position with the possibility of growing to full-time status.
In a discussion of the school facilities rental rates, with consideration of a differentiation of rentals for profit or non-profit events, the board unanimously approved the proposed rental fees, which do not include custodial, lighting or additional staff fees. Rentals will increase to twice the cost for the 2024-2025 fiscal year with a half-price allowance for rental to non-profits. Due to the relationship the Henderson | Chester County Chamber has with the school district, a special rental agreement may be created in the future.
Twenty educators were chosen by randomized drawing to receive $50 in Chamber Bucks. These educators were chosen among those having completed educator surveys.
Recipients include: Stephen Sells (CCJHS), Tonya Twyman (CCJHS), Joshua Moore (CCHS), Amy Wood (CCMS), Chastity Harris (CCJHS), Renee Thomas (CCMS), Michelle (Tishie) Hopkins (ECES), Chad Hannah (ECES), Nancy Davidson (ECES), Jared Humphrey (CCHS), Collin McPherson (CCHS), Brendan Clayton (CCHS), Lauren Wallis (CCJHS), Lauren Malecha (CCMS), Misti Elliott (ECES), Beth Whitman (CCJHS), Andrew Johnson (CCHS), Leanne Black (ECES), Lauren Wood (JCES) and Stacey Pruett (ECES).
In other news, Kendall Patterson approached the board, requesting they consider creating a position which would allow him to serve the school system in an official capacity. Board Chairman Shane Connor responded that a discussion would need to be added to a future agenda for consideration.
Superintendent Troy Kilzer II informed the board that the current construction project (Ag/Auto/Vocational and Multi-purpose facilities) has been delayed due to the rain, but is close to completion of dirt work and they are awaiting approval of pre-engineering drawings.
The next school board meeting will be held Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the board of education conference room.
