Chester County Schools announced that due to recent changes in legislation (under Chapter No. 1061) the school administration must resend the health screening forms to students in Pre-Kindergarteners, Kindergarteners, second graders, fourth graders, sixth graders, eighth graders and 10th graders.
These consent forms provide important information regarding visits to the school nurse for the 2024-2025 school year. It is permission from the parent/guardian that is required for health services performed in a school setting. “Pursuant to the requirements of T.C.A. § 63-1-173, students cannot receive non-emergent medical care absent parent consent. This may include but is not limited to, cleaning and bandaging minor cuts or abrasions, providing an ice pack, or managing illnesses and or injuries that can occur during a school day. If consent is provided, it will remain in effect during the school year unless withdrawn in writing by the parent/guardian,” stated under “Health Services Consent Forms” on the online at chestercountyschools.org. If parents have opted out the documentation is already on file for Chester County Schools. If consent is rejected, the student must understand they cannot go to the school nurse to receive treatment outside of an emergency. Parents will also be expected to ensure they are able to provide necessary treatment within 30 minutes of being notified.
