The Annual Community Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. program is slated for 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024, at Henderson City Hall. Dr. Larry Ivery will be the keynote speaker and Former Chester County Commissioner John L. Welch will be honored for his community service.
Dr. Larry Ivery, Sr. was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. Presently he resides in Jackson, Tennessee, with his wife of forty-three years. Their children reside in Jackson, Nashville and Houston.
The Dr. MLK, Jr. community choir will sing. The public is cordially invited.
Dr. Ivery graduated from Oklahoma Christian with a B.S. in Bible; Freed Hardeman University with both a Master of Ministry and Master of Science in Counseling degrees; Luther Rice Seminary with the Doctor of Ministry and attended Midwestern Theological Seminary in the Doctor of Counseling program, ABD. He is a licensed counselor in the state of Tennessee as an LPC-MHSP, Approved Supervisor, CCPT 1.
Dr. Ivery retired from Tennessee Children’s Home, where he served in the roles of social worker, counselor, program director, treatment director and executive director. He also serves as adjunct professor in the graduate Counseling Programs for Freed Hardeman University. Presently, he also serves as one of the counselors to students at FHU and as a counselor for Youth Town, Inc. of Tennessee in the Hardeman County School District. Dr. Ivery has been preaching for the past forty-six years and is serving the Church of Christ at Church Street in Henderson.
