Hello from East Chester Elementary School!
We had a great week last week of learning and growing. Each grade worked super hard in the classroom. In kindergarten, students learned about the adventures of Christopher Columbus. Did you know that he had three ships named the Nina, Pinta and the Santa Maria? Kindergarten worked hard learning shape names, describing them and sorting whether they are solid or flat shapes. Kindergarten also worked on letter sounds and blending CVC words. In Science they learned about the parts of a pumpkin and the life cycle of a pumpkin. Students wrote about the life cycle of a pumpkin and worked on remembering the rules of a sentence and sounding out words. We will be having our kindergarten fall centers on Oct. 30 in the afternoon.
Second grade prepared for the Leader in Me Assembly Thursday, Oct. 31. They will be sharing with the entire school people who made positive changes in our world and will challenge the entire school to be a Change Maker.
Mrs. Becky’s class has reached two million words in accelerated reader. Way to go, readers! They also participated in a postcard exchange with other second graders all over America. They wrote postcards sharing their favorite books with them. They put the postcards on a map outside their room.
It is a GREAT time to be a first grader at East Chester! First graders continued their study of why leaves change color in autumn. They explored the universe through interactive read aloud. Also, they learned about groups of 10s and ones in two digit numbers. Ms. Leah Beaver’s class has a class pet! It is a hermit crab. They enjoy watching him crawling around in his tank.
Kindergarten had to postpone their field trip to Falcon Ridge until Monday, Oct. 28, due to the rain. However, third grade enjoyed a great time on their field trip Friday, Oct. 25, to the Dixie to watch the Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System.
Parent Involvement on Tuesday, Oct. 22, was such fun. We celebrated the 50th day of school by having a 1950s themed night of coke floats, a drive-in movie, a sock hop and bowling. Teachers spoke to parents about various skills that were being worked on in the classroom. Tips were given to parents about helping their child at home.
Oct. 31 is our Fall Fun Day. Each grade has invited a special guest to speak to the students. Deputy Kyle Connor will be talking about Halloween safety, a Chickasaw Park Ranger will talk about animals, Mrs. Denise Stringfellow will be teaching us how to Line Dance and Amber Greene will talk about recycling. Second grade will present the Leader in Me assembly after our speaker rotations.
Nov. 2 is our Color Run at Gene Record Park. If you would like to help, please see one of our PTO officers or contact East Chester for more information.
Our Veterans Day program will be at 9 a.m. in the East Chester gym on Nov. 8. Please fill out Veterans forms if you have a veteran who plans to attend the program so that we can honor all our veterans. We would love to have you as our special guest to honor you with a wonderful program put on by the third graders.
Lots of wonderful things are happening at East. Our students are amazing and awesome learners!
