MARTY ROWLAND – Sept. 2, 1963 – Feb. 7, 2025

Marty Andrew Rowland, 61, of Henderson passed away Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, at his home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Tony Hysmith, Randy Mead, Ken Frye and Ronnie Geary officiating. Burial will follow at Cave Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday and from noon until 2 p.m. service time on Thursday. He was born Sept. 2, 1963, in Jackson and grew up in the West Chester Community of Chester County, the son of Larry J. and Virginia Ann Farris Rowland. He attended West Chester Elementary and graduated from Chester County High School in 1981. He had perfect attendance all 12 years of school. He played baseball and was MVP in football in his senior year, the same award his father received in 1960. He received a baseball scholarship to pitch at Freed-Hardeman College. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Freed in 1986. He started work at Casey Funeral Home in September of 1986. He entered mortuary school and graduated from John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science in 1991 and worked for Casey Funeral Home and later Shackelford Funeral Directors-Casey Chapel all his professional career. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and became road Captain for the Golden Circle Harley Owners Group where he met Melissa Martin. They married April 17, 2010, at Bumpus Harley Davidson in Jackson. They had shared a lifetime of love in nearly 16 years of their marriage. He enjoyed deer hunting with his dad on the Rowland Farm near Woodville. He and Larry were perfectionists in maintaining their vehicles. Marty could fix anything.
He was a member of the Cave Springs Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Melissa Faye Martin Rowland of Henderson; his father and mother, Larry and Virginia Farris Rowland; his in-laws, Brenda and Jessie Elder of Savannah and Sherman and Myra Martin of Collinwood; brother-in-law, Jason Martin of Nashville; two nieces, Bailey Martin and Zoey Greene; a nephew, Garrett Martin; and his uncle, Larry (Martha) Farris.

ROYCE F. HUNTER – July 12, 1933 – Feb. 3, 2025

Royce Freeman Hunter, 91, of Smyrna passed away Feb. 3, 2025, at his home. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Hunter Callis and Billy Smith officiating. Burial followed at Chester County Memory Gardens. The family received friends at Crook Avenue on Saturday from 9:30-11 a.m. service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Freed Hardeman University, Estes Church of Christ, Henderson Church of Christ, Sunset Church of Christ in Lubbock and/or Highland Heights Church of Christ in Smyrna. He was born July 12, 1933, in Chester County, in the Old Friendship community, the son of the late Roy and Georgie Elizabeth Freeman Hunter. He graduated from Chester County High School in 1951 and graduated from Freed-Hardeman College and after serving in the Army he graduated from Memphis State.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 until 1956, serving in Tokyo, Japan, after the service, and after receiving his degree at Memphis, he moved to the Dallas area and started to work for Sentry Insurance. He worked in claims and then in sales for 13 years, working for Sentry a total of 30 years, retiring in 1989 at the age of 55. He moved to Amarillo, Texas, where he met and married Nila June Pendegraft in 1962. They made their home in Lubbock, Texas, for 55 years, where they raised their two girls. He enjoyed playing tennis, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. He was actively playing tennis at the age of 85. He was a long-time member of Broadway and Sunset Church of Christ in Lubbock and was currently attending Highland Heights Church of Christ in Smyrna. He is survived by two daughters, Merle Lynn “Missy” and Lisa (Steve) Schaeper of Bulverde, Texas; two grandchildren, Nathan Schaeper and Justin (Mariah) Schaeper of Lafayette, Ind.; a great-grandson, Ben Schaeper of Lafayette, Ind.; and one sister, Linda (Don) Lyles of Tallahassee, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Nila June Pendergraft Hunter. 

JEANETTE BOLTON – Jan. 17, 1947 – Feb. 4, 2025

Jeanette McBurnett Payne Chappell Bolton of Henderson passed away Feb. 4, 2025.
Funeral services were 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with Bobby Russ officiating. Burial followed at Henderson City Cemetery.
The family received friends at Crook Avenue from 5-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 1 p.m. until funeral time of 3 p.m. Memorials may be made to The Prayer Room at Grace Baptist Church, 15 Southview Drive, Pinson, TN 38366, or the Chester County Library. She was born Jan. 17, 1947, in Pine Bluff, Ark., the daughter of the late Artie and Marie Bradshaw McBurnett. She graduated from White Hall High School in 1964. She received a BSE degree from the University of Central Arkansas, in 1968. She received her Master’s Degree in Business Education from the University of Memphis in 1978.
Jeanette taught 22 years in Hardeman County, 20 of which were at Bolivar Central High School where she taught typing. She taught for eight years in Chester County. She retired in 2001 after 30 years in the classroom. She was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church, Pinson, where she was a Prayer Room Volunteer. She was a former member of First Baptist Church, Bolivar, where she and her late husband, Richard Chappell, were active in the Youth Ministry. She loved to study her Bible and was a long-time member of Explorer’s Bible Study in Jackson. She was a ‘Meals on Wheels’ volunteer for over 30 years, and she served as a volunteer at the Gleaner’s Thrift House. She was a former member of the Chester County Library Board and was member of the Chester County Education Association, the Tennessee Education Association and the National Education Association. She was an avid reader of Christian novels, loved to walk and work in her flowers. She is survived by her husband, Anthony Bolton, whom she married in 1990; a son, Michael Todd (Michelle) Payne of Memphis; one daughter, Jennifer (John) Chappell Woodall of Houston, Texas; three stepchildren, Marjorie (Dave) Pjontek, Becky (George) Cox and Barry “Bear” (Joy) Bolton; four grandchildren, Mary Grace (David) Payne Mansfield of Columbia, S.C., Ethan Payne of Knoxville, and Jameson and Jesse Woodall of Houston, Texas; and four step-grandchildren, Allie (Chase) Pjontek Thoms, Luke and Steven Pjontek and Zane Bolton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Shirley McBurnett Quick.

GLYNN FLATT – March 8, 1955 – Feb. 10, 2025

Billy Glynn Flatt, 69, of Bethel Springs passed away Feb. 10, 2025, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Eugene Davis officiating. The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue from 2-3 p.m. on Friday. He was born March 8, 1955, in McNairy County.
