Rev. Troy Eugene Frye, 95, of Henderson passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, at Magnolia Hospital in Corinth, Miss., after a brief illness. Graveside services were 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at Cave Springs Cemetery with Ken Frye and Blake Carroll officiating. The family received friends at Cave Springs Cemetery from 10:30-11 a.m. on Thursday. He was born Aug. 17, 1929, in the Silerton area of Chester County, the son of the late Rev. Canie Hubert and Mary Rosetta Fry. He married the love of his life, Mary Lee Farris in Corinth, Miss., on Valentine’s Day in 1948. They were blessed to be together for 72 years before her passing in 2020. He was a devoted member of Faith Fellowship Church and a member of the Henderson Masonic Lodge #485. Starting his Ministry in 1966, he served as pastor to several area churches. In 2004, he was recognized for his years of ministerial service by the Southern Baptist Convention and awarded two honorary doctorate degrees including a Doctor of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry. His first job was with Kenneth Woods at the Henderson Sale Barn. He later co-owned Frye’s Carquest Auto Parts and worked at Simmons Lumber Company before retiring. He is survived by daughter, Janice (Lynn) Carroll of Selmer; sons, Ken (Annette) Frye and Keith (Rhonda) Frye of Henderson; grandchildren, Darren Smith and Blake Carroll of Selmer, Emily (Jake) Henderson of Poncha Springs, Colo., Adam (Megan) Frye, Lauren (Josh) Muckelvaney, Jana (Mark) Menzie, all of Henderson, and Seth Frye of Franklin; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild with two on the way; sisters, Mary (Warren) Dugas and Ruth Cates; brother-in-law, Larry (Martha) Farris; and sister-in-law, Virginia (Larry) Rowland. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty Jo and Mildred Williams; and brother, Nelson Wayne in 1983.
Ruth Evelyn Phillips Ledbetter, 90, passed away Aug. 31, 2024, at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, S.C. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Bro. Jimmy Dyer and Lisa Ledbetter Johnson officiating.
Burial followed at the Henderson City Cemetery. The family received friends at Crook Avenue from 5-7:30 p.m. Monday and noon-2 p.m. on Tuesday. She was born May 26, 1934, in Henderson and raised in the Mifflin Community, the daughter of the late Lester and Dona Phillips. She attended schools in Chester County and graduated from Chester County High School in 1952. She attended West Tennessee Business College in Jackson. She worked for First State Bank as a bank teller for 17 years.
In 1958, she married Arvy King Ledbetter. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Henderson and a member of the Pentagon Club, Ingleside Club and various bridge clubs. She enjoyed gardening and was very passionate of roses. She excelled in creating a beautiful home and was fond of seasonal decorations. She loved basketball, a fan of the Memphis Grizzlies. Her friendships were a special aspect in her life from phone call chats to sharing a cup of coffee and hosting special gatherings. Up until the end, she maintained kindness, love of family and expressed gratitude for her long life.
She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family will miss her love of red lipstick and nails and most of all her genuine smile and laughter. She is survived by daughter, Lisa (Greg) Johnson; grandsons, Payton (Olivia) Johnson and Grayson (Hannah) Johnson; and great-grandson, Sawyer Johnson, all of Columbia, S.C. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arvy King Ledbetter in 2019; brother, Bobby Phillips; and granddaughter, Kayla Johnson.
Bobby Joe Bragg, 34, of Finger passed away Aug. 23, 2024, at his home.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with family and friends officiating. Burial followed at Henderson City Cemetery.
He was born in Memphis and grew up in Millington and Middleton, the son of Anna Lynn Rowland Bragg. He went to school at Middleton. He worked at SMC, Smith Metal Recycling in Selmer.
He enjoyed the outdoors, riding motorcycles, and dirt bikes. He always did things for his sisters, nieces, and nephews. He is survived by his mother, Anna Bragg of Finger; fiancé, Robin Conner Bragg; two sisters, Kimberly Bragg and Christina Bragg both of Selmer; and grandparents, Bennie and Clara Rowland.
James Coleman Holland, 82 years, 2 months, and 24 days, departed this life on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024 at his home in Bath Springs. Services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 9 at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Savannah with Gene Hanna officiating. Burial followed in the Milledgeville Cemetery at Milledgeville.
He was born in Milledgeville on June 8, 1942.
Carolyn Gay Barrett Escue, 61, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 31, 2024, at her home in Humboldt. A celebration of life service was held at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – East Main Chapel with Tim Escue and Keith Escue officiating. The family received friends at East Main beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday.
