On Saturday, April 12, Silerton Baptist Church sponsored a trip to the Memphis Zoo. It was a fine day for approximately 34 adults and children to have a great time. A big thank you to Debby Ross and all the others who arranged the excursion A tremendous thank you to Dixie Hills Baptist Church for their loan of two vans for the trip. Marcus had not been to the Memphis Zoo since 1975 as a young teenager with his family, and it was very memorable to revisit. After the zoo, Jamie and Marcus went to the Finger Fish Fry to partake with their fellow primates.

On April 21, the Frys will be flying the Tennessee and Texas flags to honor the great Tennessean Sam Houston (the “Raven,” his Cherokee name) and those who fought with him on San Jacinto Day. On this day in 1836 at San Jacinto, Houston led the Texas army in defeating the Mexican army, thereby guaranteeing Texas independence. Sam Houston is the only individual to be elected governor of two different U.S. states, Tennessee and Texas.
