With a big win over Lindenwood University – Belleville on Jan. 16, score being 95-64, The FHU Lions continue to have a remarkable season.
After having two losing season back to back 10 – 20 in (2017-18) and 7-23 (2018-19), Head Coach Drew Stutts, in his first season as head coach of the Lions, has really brought the team to a new level from its recent history with a current record of 11-5 (8-3 in conference.).
“I really enjoy Freed-Hardeman. It’s a great place to coach and also to attend school,” he said. “I’m really excited about this season. I got a great group of guys who represent the university well that play hard and play together. They have a lot of excitement when you come watch them play.”
Furthermore, the Lions have constantly put on a good show for their fans while they play in Henderson, because they remained undefeated at home until their recent loss versus Harris-Stowe State University on Saturday Jan. 18. They lost against HSSU 101-96 after being in the lead until HSSU took the lead with about 4:10 left in the game.
Between the LUB and HSSU games, Stutts said, “8-0 at home is nice. We’ve steadily improved with our attendance at games so I hope that continues. I think we put a great product on the floor that’s a lot of fun to watch and that’s worth people’s time.”
Now the team sits 8-1 at home.
Another feat the team has accomplished this season is being number four in the NAIA in 3-pointers made per game with an average of 11.8 as of the morning of Jan. 18.
He’s proud of the early success the team has had and wants them to continue to have that “hunger to improve all the time.”
After this year, the excitement will not stop. Stutts is excited for the Lions’ future as well.
The team only has one senior this year which means the other team members have another year to improve with the potential they have already shown and build team chemistry as well.

Overall Record
11-5
Conference
