Sunrise By David Coy: Overburdened

A number of tragedies have happened this holiday season that have reminded me of personal circumstances in my immediate or extended family. They all seem to relate to the story I am sharing with you this week. This is a story about people who became weary. They were fatigued, tired, exhausted with the toil or burdens or grief in their life. To all who were weary and overburdened, an invitation was given – a universal welcome that they might receive rest to be refreshed and rejuvenated. The type of toil or burden mattered not, but they would receive such in body and soul that they would be revived, enabling them to endure and persevere during their struggles in life.
In part we receive rest in our sorrow and refreshment by having strong support from family and friends who are willing to walk with us in our journey with grief. To the tragedies mentioned above, too many people try to carry their burden(s) alone. Also, too many people are not willing to walk with them and help carry their burden. Herein is a vitally important principle we all should fulfill all year – bear one another’s burdens. I recall when the twin towers in New York were hit by terrorists. We came together as a country to support one another. We are meant as a society to interact, to share with other people our lives and to not be an island to ourselves. May we renew this commitment to each other this holiday season and live it each and every day for the rest of our lives.
