Saturday, May 15 – Deadline to Sign-up for Middle School Book Club
Thursday, May 20 – Chester County Library Board Meeting – 5-6 p.m. in the conference room
Thursday, May 27 – Summer Reading Program Kickoff and Memphis Zoo Zambezi River Hippo Virtual Program at the Library – Kick off begins at 3 p.m. and goes until 4:30 p.m. Memphis Zoo program starts at 3:30 pm. The Memphis Zoo’s own Zoo Dude will be presenting a Zambezi River Hippo Adventure virtual program which will offer a behind the scenes peek at the Hippo Camp exhibit, learn about the river system, and learn how the hippos can thrive in river habitats. Snacks and take and go crafts are available for participants of the program.

Middle School
Book Club
Since the summer of 2004, the library has offered a Middle School Book Club that meets from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. every Thursday during the months of June and July. Our first meeting for 2021 will be on Thursday, June 3, 2021. Children who have finished third grade through fifth grade may participate, but each child must sign up to attend. Each week, the children will receive a book that we will discuss the following week. The meetings consist of discussions firstly led by library director Savannah Gilbert and then participant led. As able, there may be STEAM challenges or activities that can be completed at the library or at home. On the last day of Middle School Book Club (July 29, 2021) we will have a pizza party and participants will receive a book club T-shirt that the group designs! This year, our theme will follow our Summer Reading Program: Tails & Tales!
Due to COVID-19, the library has made many adjustments to ensure the safety of our community, patrons, and staff. The middle school book club will be offered in a hybrid manner. A live feed will be available where participants can join via our meeting software, WebEx. Participants will have the option to meet in person as well (as long as the library opening phase allows for this- you will be notified if we cannot have anyone physically present in the library). This allows participation even when on vacation, at a friend’s house, or while you are out running errands! A final option if you are not able to attend physically or have no internet is to call a phone number that will allow your child to be a part of the meeting with audio only.

Board Meeting
The Chester County Library Board will meet in the conference room on Thursday, May 20, 2021. The public is welcome to attend this meeting. If you feel that you need to be added to the agenda, contact the library director no fewer than seven days before the date of the meeting.
Library Survey
Please complete the Chester County Library 2021 survey. It only takes two-three minutes to complete and your feedback is crucial in helping us plan goals, programs, and determining the types of materials to purchase to better benefit our community!
Paper surveys are available at the library – Can be dropped off at the front circulation desk or in the dropbox outside of the library once completed.

What Next? Each Friday, the library director will post to Facebook and on our website (chestercountylibrarytn.weebly.com under Community Resources/Survey Results) with a response to the survey results collected within that week. This allows you to see your comments addressed or for you to see what we may have that you did not know about!
Summer Reading
Program Information
The Chester County Library Summer Reading Program officially begins on May 15, 2021. Reading and listening logs will be made available on May 15. The Summer Reading Program schedule is already available on our website at chestercountylibrarytn.weebly.com . We have several great events this year from a family jeopardy event, shelter pet day, jungle yoga storytime, visits from a hawk and snakes, and so much more! Our kickoff event will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 27. The Memphis Zoo’s Zoo Dude will be offering a Zambezi River Hippo Adventure virtual program at the library! This year, the Summer Reading Program is open to children, juveniles, teens, and adults with prizes for each age group! The library is also hosting a write your own story contest and LEGO creation contest.
In response to the COVID19 pandemic, the Chester County Library has elected to offer most programs in a hybrid manner. This means that all programs will be offered in the library. Social distancing will apply and face masks are encouraged but not required. If indicated, you also have the option of attending programs virtually. This will be completed through the program WebEx which can be downloaded onto a tablet, smartphone, computer, or laptop. Alternatively, you have the option through WebEx to call a phone number and join the meeting in this manner. If you select this option, you will be able to hear and speak at the program, but not see the program.
Craft packs will be made available 1 week prior to each program. If you will be completing the program virtually and need a craft pack, please pick one up at the library. Otherwise, program attendees at the library are welcome to get their craft pack and complete the craft at the library OR take their pack home at the end of the program.
