A Publication of the Chester County Library: COVID-19 Edition

“Real courage is when you know you’re licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what.” – To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee
Library Closings
The Chester County Library is currently closed through April 13, 2020. Please note that at that time, the director and library board will re-evaluate the status of the pandemic, Governor Lee executive orders, President Trump recommendations, and CDC recommendations to determine if the library will open. See the library’s Facebook page and website for updates.
Library Events
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the regular story- times and book club meetings are still cancelled. In addition, the library is sad to report they will not have the annual Easter Egg Hunt.
The director is hosting a virtual story time each Tuesday and Thursday via Facebook. The time varies but is always also shared on the Community Bulletin Board page.
Children’s Activity Packs
The Chester County Library continues to provide children’s activity packs. Library staff assembles packs and then places them outside of the library, beside the dropbox, Monday through Friday. Packs include crafts, educational activities, coloring pages, and other activities. Packs are centered around a daily theme, such as pizza, Toy Story, owls, spring, and more!
Share photos on Facebook showing your children enjoying activity packs and completing crafts.
E-Books and Audiobooks during our closure
Books may be checked out free, on the Libby App. During the pandemic, a library card is not required for access to the app. Visit the Chester County Library Facebook page or call 989-4673 for more information.
Note from the Director
While the library is closed, myself and ALL of the staff of the Chester County Library strive to help the community in every way that we possibly can. Below, we answer some FAQ’s as well as provide valuable resources. We have someone on staff at the library Monday through Friday to answer your questions. Feel free to call us with any questions or to get information! You can also message us on Facebook! We are happy to help in any way we can.
FAQ’s
What are the library staff doing in the library right now? Great question! Some of the things that we have worked on include straightening and organizing the Tennessee room and adding AR quiz numbers, points, and reading levels on children’s and juvenile books. We have been ordering and cataloging new materials to be ready for you when we open back up. We are working on planning our Summer Reading Program, answering questions on Facebook and via the phone, and always searching for resources for our community.
You say that you are getting new materials. Why aren’t they being posted? We decided not to post the materials that we have coming in right now because we do not want anyone to think they can come and get these books. We are keeping track of them and we will have a special edition of the Library Lowdown displaying all of these titles closer to time for us to reopen.
I need to use the internet. What do I do? The library wi-fi is on 24/7. Feel free to park in our parking lot and use the wi-fi! It works great!
My books, hotspot, or DVDs were due! Don’t worry! No items are due during our closure. Keep them in a safe place at home and we will let you know when you can bring them back to the library. No fines are being accumulated during this time either!
Why are you saying not to bring items back while you are closed? There is a lot of uncertainty on if the virus can transfer from person to person via physical objects. We do know that it can live on plastic for up to two to three days and 24 hours on cardboard. Additionally, it is recommended that items returned be quarantined. For the safety of our staff and patrons, we want to give the virus a chance to “die off” during the quarantine period while we are closed.
