Virgil Ray Wilkins, 85, of Henderson passed away Aug. 24, 2020 at his home. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shackelford Funeral Directors Crook Avenue with Bro. Brad Patterson officiating. Burial followed in Chester County Memory Gardens.
He was born July 8, 1935 in Decatur County and reared in Henderson County near Scotts Hill, the son of the late Roby Lee and Roma Estelle Teague Wilkins. He graduated from Scotts Hill High School in 1954. He entered the U.S. Army in 1958 and served for a short period of time. He married Marlene ‘Marty’ Moore in 1959. They made their home in Memphis where he worked for Ford Motor Company in shipping and receiving of automotive parts. He retired from Ford in 1993. They moved to Henderson in 2000.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Henderson.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene Virginia Moore Wilkins of Henderson; two sons, Jeffrey (Dana) Wilkins of Scotts Hill and Gregory Wilkins of Memphis; two grandchildren, Jacob (Jennie) Wilkins and Marley Wilkins; and a sister, Juanita Moore of Scotts Hill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Floyd Wilkins; and one sister, Mable Scott.
