Walter Bennett Obituary – March 1, 1932 – Nov. 21, 2020

Walter Elliott Bennett, 88, passed away Saturday evening, Nov. 21, 2020 at his home in the Hickory Corner Community.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with Bro. James Towery officiating. Burial followed at Chester County Memory Gardens. The family received friends at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday.
He was born March 1, 1932 in New Brunswick, N.J., and grew up in Delanco, N.J., the son of the late Walter Henry and Maryalma Mount Bennett. He graduated from Palmyra High School in 1950. He entered the U. S. Navy serving from 1952 till 1956, during the Korean War Era.
He married Annie Porter in 1953. They made their home most of their married life in Delanco, N.J., where he worked 30 years for New Jersey Bell telephone, retiring in 1986 when they moved to the Hickory Corner Community. He is a member of First Baptist Church Bethel Springs, the Telephone Pioneers and the Hickory Corner Community Center.
He is survived by his wife, Annie M. Porter Bennett of Hickory Corner; a son, W. Barry Bennett of Columbia, Mo.; one daughter-in-law, Jennifer Bennett of Finger; a sister, Bonnie Smith of Florida; five grandchildren, James E. Jr., Jessica, Andrew, Elliott and Stephanie; and six great-grandchildren, Aliyah, Triston, Cameron, Adalyn, Jaxon and Harper.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, James E. Bennett, Feb. 19, 2016.
