WFHU 91.5 will broadcast a special one-hour program, “Eddy Arnold and His Place in Country Music History,” at noon, Friday, May 14, immediately following the dedication of the marker designating Henderson as the birthplace of the music legend. The program will be repeated at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 15, and again at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 16.
Host Rodger Holtin said, “I’ll focus on the early part of his career. Those records don’t get heard much any more. The change he exemplified in the 50s and 60s are represented by the stuff that’s more common today. I’ll put that in context of where country music was when he started and how he changed it by changing himself.” Holtin stressed that the show is from his personal perspective as a record collector.
Holtin noted that Saturday, May 15, 2021, is the 113th anniversary of Arnold’s birth. “With a recording career that spanned seven decades, 85 million records sold, and fans that numbered into the millions, he certainly is a country music legend,” Holtin said.
WFHU streaming is carried on iHeartRadio, and may be found at https://www.fhu.edu/fm91.
