Henderson Civitan Club Autumn Display Contest
The Henderson Civitan Club Display Contest has begun. There will be separate entries for house/lawn and for holiday storefront. Prize for individuals are $25 Chamber Bucks and Civitan Smoked Boston Butt on Nov. 13 and photo in Chester County Independent. Prizes for businesses include $25 and photo in Chester County Independent and Social Media. See Facebook Henderson Civitan Club – Public Page for details. Word Basics and Gmail Basic Courses Sept. 21-26
Word Basics and Gmail Basics classes available Sept. 21-26! These can be done from the comfort of your own home or by coming into the library. You will have a chance to speak with the trainer. Call the library at 731-989-4673 to reserve your spot. 
4-H Club Meeting Sept. 24 
The Chester County Home School 4-H Club is open to any home school student in Chester County in fourth-12th grades. Our first meeting of the school year will be held on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 3 p.m. We will meet outside of the UT Extension office. For more information, call the UT Extension office at 989-2103.
Technology Training Sept. 24
There is a One On One Technology Training 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. time spot available Sept 24. Call the library at 731-989-4673 to reserve.
Library Board Meeting Sept. 24

Hog Toss Sept. 19
Join us for the second annual Henderson/Chester County Chamber of Commerce Henderson Hog Toss. The Hog Toss is a disc golf game played with a flying disc in which players throw at a target. The Henderson Hog Toss will take place on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the disc golf course at Gene Record Part. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the Hog Toss will begin at 9 a.m.
Fish Fry & Barbeque Chicken Dinner Oct. 3
Fish Fry & Barbeque Chicken Dinner will be from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. The meal includes all you can eat fish or chicken with all the trimmings and homemade desserts. Cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children. All proceeds will go towards the operating expenses of the Finger  Fire Department. Dine in or carry out will be available. Please wear a mask for your protection!
Benefit for Tamacha Couch Oct. 3
There will be a benefit for Tamacha Couch from noon-4 p.n. Oct. 3 at 347 Harmon St., Henderson. Barbeque plates will be sold for $10. Plates include potato salad, baked beans or cole slaw, dessert and a drink. The family of Tamacha Couch would like to say thank you and God bless each of you.
Mifflin Day Cancelled
The Mifflin Day Event scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4, has been cancelled this year.
FHU Rummage Sale Oct. 7-10
The Freed-Hardeman University Associates will be conducting their Fall/Winter Rummage Sale this year from Oct. 7-10. The sale which will include household items, clothing and accessories, furniture, tools, books, and much more will be held at the National Guard Armory at 759 E. Main Street in Henderson. Masks are required.
Cham”BOO” Bash
Fun Run Oct 29

Please join the Henderson-Chester County Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, Oct. 29, at Gene Record Park for the Cham”BOO” Bash Fun Run! There will be a costume contest for the Fun Run participants. Check-in is at 6 p.m. with the costume contest at 6:30 p.m. and Fun Run at 7 p.m. First place prizes will be given in the following categories: best family costume, best pet costume, best boy and girl costume age six and under, best boy and girl costume age seven-12, and best adult costume male and female. Participants that register before Friday, Oct. 16, will receive a free t-shirt! Please note that age three and under are free but will not receive a shirt. Cost is $25 for 16 and older and $15 for 15 and younger. Make checks to Henderson/Chester County Chamber of Commerce and mail to PO Box 1976, Henderson, TN 38340. You can also pay by PayPal.
Jacks Creek Annual Stew Sale Oct. 31
Jacks Creek Volunteer Fire Station annual stew sale fundraiser will be Saturday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. until sold out at St. Rt. 100 E at Hwy 22A. Cost is $18 a gallon; bring own container. Social distancing will apply.
Free COVID Counseling Hotline
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Quinco Mental Health Center has partnered with The Tennessee Recovery Project to provide free phone counseling for those experiencing emotional health challenges related to COVID-19.  You will get a supportive, sympathetic ear along with practical advice and coping skills. The hotline, 866-511-4159, is answered live by a trained counselor seven days per week.  The hotline hours are 8 a.m.-midnight Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and noon-3 p.m. Sunday. You can share as little or as much information as you are comfortable with. We are here to listen.
Teddy Bear Program
The CC Fire Department would like to receive new teddy bears or small stuffed animal donations by citizens and businesses. The teddy bears are kept in the fire trucks, and when the firefighters encounter a child who has been traumatized due to tragedy or victimization, the child is given a bear. For more information on this program or how you can donate a teddy bear, please contact the Chester County Fire Department at 983-5570 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Donations will be accepted year round.
Volunteers Needed

The Ladies from the Henderson Community are seeking children ages 17 and below to do posters, essays, poems and oratoricals to support Black History Month, Feb. 2021.  We are also pursuing businesses in Chester County to display the youth’s work during black history month. CC Head Start Accepting Applications
Southwest Head Start is now taking application on three- and four-year old children for Chester County Head Start. There are no fees for services. Let us take your application by phone. Currentlt offering two options: classroom option (child will attend in a classroom setting four days a week with one virtual day) or virtual option (child will have five days of virtual learning).
