CC Library and Diary Queen Reading Logs

The Chester County Library and the Henderson Dairy Queen have partnered to celebrate the beginning of school and the fun of reading.  Pick up a reading log at the library and read 10 books (or two books that are more than 50 pages). Bring your list back to the library, and you will receive a coupon for a free Blizzard. Pre-K through Kindergarten may have the books read to them. Let’s start the school year right with lots of reading!

Senior Center Fall Trip Sept. 28-Oct. 6

The Chester County Senior Center is planning a trip out West to see the extraordinary sites of Mount Rushmore, Badlands National Park, and the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. The trip is scheduled for Sept. 28-Oct. 6 (nine days, eight nights), via Motorcoach Transportation. Cost is $845 per person and is based on double occupancy. Add an additional $286 for single occupancy. $75 is due upon signing. Final payment is due July 21. Price includes transportation, lodging, 14 meals, and more. Goff Family Reunion Aug. 10

The Goff Family Reunion will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, beginning at noon at Shiloh Baptist Church off Hwy. 22. Bring your favorite dish and join the gang. Family and friends are welcome.

Oliver! Auditions Aug. 12 & 13

The Jackson’s Children’s and Teen Theatre announces auditions for Lionel Bart’s Oliver! Auditions will be at 3:45 p.m. Aug. 12 & 13 at the Ned R. McWherter Cultural Art Center, 314 E. Main St. in Jackson. Be prepared to sing 24 measures of a Broadway show tune of your choice. Please bring a CD or sheet music. No acapella please. For more information call 731-425-8397.

Russell Kinchen Benefit Aug. 17

Sweetlips community will be hosting a benefit for Russell Kinchen. It will be Aug. 17. We will have a spaghetti dinner and bake sale. You may dine-in or carry out. Time will be 4-6 p.m. or until sold out. Cost is $10 for adults and $6 for kids. The event will be held at the Sweetlips Community Center. We are asking anyone who can to donate cakes, pies, cookies, bread, etc., for the bake sale. Maness Family Reunion Aug. 17

The Ernest and Biddie Moore Maness family reunion will be held Saturday, Aug. 17, at FHU Youth Camp off Hwy. 45. We will eat at noon, and there will be a dessert judging contest. Bring your best dessert. Bring your family tree with photos on poster board. Observe other poster boards from the beginning of our reunion.

Purdy Historical Society Meeting Aug. 20

Everyone is invited to the Purdy Historical Society on the second Tuesday of each month at Purdy Presbyterian Church, located on Gann RD, Selmer (Purdy Community). The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Ret. Lt. Colonel Stephen R. Browder is this month’s guest speaker. Browder will talk of his life as a lifelong McNairy Countian, as young man, Vietnam Veteran, Tennessee Highway Patrolman, Homeland Security and law enforcement in and around McNairy County. He will bring memorabilia to share with attendees. Colonel Browder is a well respected man and friend and is loved by the folks of McNairy County and beyond. Mark your calendar wow! Ballet Arts Auditions Aug. 24

Ballet Arts, Inc. will hold their annual auditions for Company membership on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 188 Commerce Center Circle. A non-refundable audition fee of $25 is due at the time of auditions. Birth certificates must be presented at time of auditions for all new applicants. This is the only date for auditions. Registration for all dancers begins at 8:30 a.m. Apprentice Membership auditions are 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. Junior and Senior Performing Membership auditions are 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. An informational meeting for parents and dancers will be held at 11 a.m. An apprentice member must be 10 years old, have at least two years of formal ballet training and be dancing at an upper beginner level or intermediate level. A performing member must be at least 13 years old and dancing at an intermediate to advanced level. Pig Trot 5K Sept. 28

The Pig Trot 5K will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at No Xcuse Fitness, 123 Front St. in Henderson. There will be a 5K and one mile run. Cost is $25 for the 5K and $20 for the one mile. Proceeds benefit Relay for Life. Pick up a form at FirstBank, or register online at racesonline.com. Pre-registration end Sept. 16. (Add $5 after Sept. 16)
