Xi Chi Delta wins Freed-Hardeman University’s Makin’ Music sweepstakes trophy

Xi Chi Delta’s “Juke Box Hero” took home the sweepstakes trophy following Saturday evening’s performance of the 44th annual production of Freed-Hardeman University’s Makin’ Music.
Following closely behind was Sigma Rho’s “Out of the Hood.” Chi Beta Chi took third place with “Going for the Gold.” Phi Kappa Alpha was presented the Spirit of Makin’ Music Award Friday evening.
Category winners in order of finish were:
Choreography and Blocking: Chi Beta Chi, Xi Chi Delta and Sigma Rho
Lyrics: Sigma Rho, Xi Chi Delta and Phi Kappa Alpha
Costumes: Sigma Rho, Chi Beta Chi and Xi Chi Delta
Vocals: Xi Chi Delta, Chi Beta Chi and Sigma Rho
Props and Set Design: Xi Chi Delta, Sigma Rho and Phi Kappa AlphaEntertainment Value: Tie between Xi Chi Delta and Phi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Rho and Chi Beta Chi.
Despite the theme of “Some Things Never Change,” some things did change. Loyd Auditorium was not packed. The continuing pandemic led to restricted seating in the usual home of Makin’ Music. Instead, all three shows were live streamed to an online audience. The music, however, played on.
