Zola Mae Kinchen, 97, of Henderson passed away Aug. 5, 2021 at her home.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Pastor Michael Rickenbaker and Pastor Jonathan McElhaney officiating.
Burial followed in Highland Memorial Gardens in Jackson. The family received friends at Crook Avenue from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday.
She was born Aug. 16, 1923 in Madison County, the daughter of the late Arthur and Anna Bawcum Long. She grew up in Madison County and attended schools there. She married Joe Harvey Kinchen on April 5, 1946, and they made their home in Henderson.
She worked at Chester County Sportswear and Brown Shoe Factory. Her last work for many years was to look after her grandchildren, her most rewarding work.
She was very active in church ministries and was a member of the Christ Community Church in Henderson.
She is survived by a son, David (Joan) Northcutt of Corinth, Miss.; three daughters, Judith Hindman of Henderson, Diane Thomas of Nashville and Phyllis (Austin) Brown of Henderson; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sue Barca of Folsom, La.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Harvey Kinchen, Sr. (2007); her son, Joe Harvey Kinchen, Jr.; a granddaughter, Tina Shelby; four brothers, Leray Long, Loy Long, Tom Long and James Long; and three sisters, Sarah Smith, Viola Hendrix and Sadie Darrow.
