2020 MLK program to be held January 19 at City Hall in Henderson

In remembrance of the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., the MLK program celebrating the life of Dr. King will be held at Henderson City Hall instead of Williams Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Jan. 19.
The speaker this year will be Apostle Frank M. Holiday of Greater Evangelical Ministries in Selmer.
The theme is “Living the Dream.”
The ceremony will have singing from singers of different choirs across the area, speakers and a step performance by the Baby Blues Step Team.
“I think it’s important that we don’t lose anything to the legacy,” Dr. Jerry Woods, who helps put the program together every year. ‘We should see that Dr. King isn’t just an African American hero or a Civil Rights hero but an American hero.”
Woods feel as if it is important that children such as the Baby Blues Step Team are involved in the remembering of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy.
He also wanted to make sure everyone was aware that this event is open to all and is not limited to the city residents but also four those in the county.
“We want to make sure this it’s inclusive. Every citizen is welcome to celebrate the life and legacy.”
Woods thanks all those in Henderson who helped make this possible and is honored that Henderson opened its doors to the event.
The last rehearsal will be at 6:30 p.m. tonight, Jan. 16, at J.P. Baptist Church.
The Henderson/Chester County community has been doing this program since it was established in 1986.
