Chester County High School Automotive students impress adult competitors in Kentucky

Students from the CCHS Automotive class traveled to Bowling Green, Ky. to compete in the First Annual Pro Touring Truck Shootout Auto Cross on the weekend of August 8-9.
Seven local students attended this event: Jameson Carter, Haydn Haltom, Eli Talbott, and drivers Lake Eskew, Trace Beaver, Mason Davidson and Riley Plunk.
Each driver made five laps Saturday and three laps Sunday with Trace Beaver receiving third place in the Novice class against 10 other adult teams.
Each student had responsibilities while they were there. The drivers had to help each other prepare for their turn around the track. The other students not driving were responsible for helping with the track duties such as picking up cones that were knocked over by participants of the race. They all had to participate in preparing the truck for the race.
The students had the opportunity to meet people from different state and build relationships with possible future employers as they were offered job opportunities when they graduate high school.
CCHS Automotive teacher James Carter and his students were surprised Saturday night at a banquet for all contenders at the Corvette museum. The students truck “CK-19” was sitting in the banquet hall where the festivities were held. The students were asked to come up on stage, and they received an applause from all of the participants.
Each student had a turn to talk about the experience they had during the summer building the truck and their first time on the autocross track.
“This event has been an experience for the students,” Carter said, adding it was also an experience for himself. “We are hoping to get more schools involved with this sport to offer students more areas of competitions and opportunities to build relationships.”
The students also had a set of wheels for their next build donated to them by the Mittler Brothers Machine and Tool. The students are to pick out what wheel they want and Mittler Brothers will ship them to the school.
“The students came in like bandits and stole the show,” said one team that participated in the competition.
There was a great group of people at this event and that was happy to offer assistance and advice to the students.
