American Legion Davidson-Haltom Post 157 is pleased to announce the results of this year’s competition by Chester County High School students for fully-funded scholarships to attend the Tennessee American Legion BOYS STATE, INC. program at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville from May 21-26, 2023.
After nomination was made for each competitor by a member of the high school faculty, scholarship winners were selected by a panel of distinguished members from Post 157 and faculty from Chester County High School. The selection criteria were very high, and the panel was most impressed by the leadership, character and accomplishments that each nominee has already made in their young lives. Their illustrious academic accomplishments, combined with service to their school and community, were indeed remarkable.
In addition, the panel was convinced that each selectee will most ably represent Post 157 and Chester County High School with their attendance at this non-partisan event as we all work together to impress upon future generations the responsibilities of citizenship and to develop leadership that realizes the full duties and responsibilities of all American citizens.
At Boys State selectees learn the rights, privileges and responsibilities of citizenship. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county and state governments. Operated by students elected to various offices, these activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, choruses and recreational programs.
The three students awarded these three fully-funded scholarships were Ben Clayton and Chance Thompson both of Henderson and Haydn Haltom of Jackson. In addition, Hunt Pipkin, Jagger Young and Ken Kitchen, all of Henderson, and Jacob Mutter of Pinson were selected as alternate delegates to attend if any selectee is unable to attend.
