The Chester County Eagles looked like a different team defensively Friday night against the South Side Hawks.
At halftime, the Eagles were leading by one point, 14-13. However, they were not able to rack up more points in the second half, and the Hawks continued to score. The final was 29-14.
The first drive of the game resulted in a touchdown for the Hawks, but they were not able to get the extra point.
The Eagles responded by scoring a touchdown on a pass to Ellis Patterson on fourth and two.
After that it was punt after punt until with 2:52 left in the half, Chester County was able to score again making it 14-6.
It looked like they were going to be able to go into halftime with that score, but the Hawks managed to score with 31.1 seconds left in the half; score now 14-13.
The third quarter remained the same.
In the fourth, the Eagles’ chance of scoring was minimized after being backed to the end zone. One possession resulted in a safety and the other possession resulted in a fumble.
South Side scored off a short pass in the fourth to take the lead 20-14, scored the safety and scored again following recovering the fumble by the Eagles.
Chester County Football Head Coach Steve Robinson was still proud of his team though they lost, especially defensively. He stated how there definitely are still improvements to be made but the team is making strides in the right direction.
“We gave much better effort tonight than we gave last Friday night. We played four quarters. The players didn’t give up,” Robinson said. “I hate the loss but you have to find the positives. That’s what you have to look forward with. You can’t dwell with the negatives. You got to find the positives and build on those to give the kids the confidence they can play and they can execute. Win, lose or draw, if you have a team that’s gonna stay in there and that’s gonna fight to the very end, I can live with that.”
