On Tuesday Dec. 1, Chester County fans witnessed the Eaglettes demolish the Humboldt Vikings 66-15.
As soon as they got on the court, the Eaglettes got to work and finished the first quarter which ended in a buzzer beater shot by Freshman Jena Melton.
Humboldt did not score until there was six minutes left in the second quarter. However, they were only able to score one more time in the first half which put the Eaglettes up 46-4 at halftime.
At the end of the third it was 63-11. Then the final score was 66-15 with the Eagletts for the win.
On the other hand, while the girls played in a shutout game, the guys had an intense game that kept fans from both sides on the edge of their seats.
The first quarter was left 17-17 after Dalton Colbert tied it up with a layup.
The first was followed by another thrilling quarter with both teams matching each others’ points. The Eagles got a four point lead on the Vikings, 28-24 though which helped them go into halftime 34-30.
In the third, Chester County picked up some momentum and gave themselves a lead 51-41 and ended the quarter at 53-43.
Humboldt did not give up though. In the beginning of the fourth, the Vikings made the comeback needed. At that point the Eagles were either ahead or the game was tied.
With over a minute remaining, Humboldt started to hold the ball convincing an Eagle to foul him and make them score at the free point line. However, that hurt Chester Co. more than help, because he got his free throws. After that, the Eagles could not score quickly enough to come back, and the Vikings kept making their free throws which caused the Eagles to lose 65-59.
Then, on Friday, Dec. 4, the Eaglettes faced the competitive team of Crockett County after playing relatively easier games. They almost won it too.
Within the last minute, the Eaglettes took the lead following a 3 pointer and layup by Mia Hurst with 15 seconds left on the clock. The score was 52-51 and the Chester Co. fans went wild. Unfortunately, Crockett was able to make a buzzer beater shot for the win, 53-52.
Eaglettes Head Coach Lee Pipkin said that it was a different atmosphere for the team playing a tougher opponent. Furthermore, though they lost, the girls had a good comeback at the end. She said the team just has to play hard the full 32 minutes.
The Chester Co. Boys’ game against Crocket Co. resulted in a “W” for Chester Co.
The game was close until the Eagles began to take the game in the fourth which gave them the 64-49 win.
The Crockett game was similar to the Humboldt game, however, the Eagles were able to win it.
“We had a lot more poise at the end, and finished off a lot stronger,” said Eagles Head Coach Collin McPherson.
“I was proud of them growing up in a short amount of time.”
On Monday Dec. 7, the Eaglettes had the lead against South Gibson but lost in the end 51-44.
The boys had a close game, but lost as well 63-59.
