Celebrate July 4 with local events

Head over to Chickasaw State Park for several events on July 4. Join Lindsey by the trading post for a tie-dye activity with water guns from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. They will be making Fourth of July t-shirts using red and blue dye. Sign up at the Chickasaw State Park office. There are 15 spots available and a $5 fee.
Join Lindsey at the bird aviary in Chickasaw Park at noon on July 4 to make a handprint paper Bald Eagle. Participants will learn why the eagle is an American symbol, facts about them, and what Bald eagles sound like.
Meet with Lindsey again for a game of capture the flag at 3 p.m. on July 4. There will be two teams: America vs Britain. Each team member will get a water gun, and race against the other team to capture their flag without getting sprayed! Twenty spots available, sign up in the office.
At 5 p.m., meet at the Brewers’ cabin at Chickasaw Sate Park to learn how to cook using a dutch oven while making a Fourth of July themed cobbler with strawberries and blueberries. Sign up at the park office; there are 20 spots available and a $7 fee.

Celebrate Independence Day Weekend with the Pinson Mounds staff from 8-9 p.m. July 3 with a Night Hike. Learn about the people that lived here before the Americas were established. Bring water, bug spray, and sturdy shoes. This hike will be around one mile long and will end at the top of Sauls Mound.
Lastly, there will be a fireworks show at the Chester County Dixie Youth Ballpark starting at 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 4.
All fireworks are prohibited in Henderson city limits unless events are sponsored and approved by the Henderson Fire Dept.
