The 2024 Election season is upon us and folks will be heading to the polls soon.
The Presidential Preference Primary will be held on March 5, 2024, with all precincts being open from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Election Day. Early voting for this PPP election will take place from February 14 until February 27, 2024. During the early voting period, polls will be open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., Thursday 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. until noon. Early voting will be closed February 19, 2024, in observance of President’s Day. Voters needing to vote an absentee by mail ballot can contact the Election Office at 731-989-4039 to request an application for ballot prior to February 27, 2024. The deadline to register to vote in the March 5, 2024 election is February 5, 2024.
It will not be long until things are heating up on the local front as well. Those interested in running for one of the local offices that will be on the August 1, 2024, General Ballot will be able to pick up a petition packet beginning at 8:30 a.m. on February 5, 2024, in the Chester County Election Office. Local positions that will be on the ballot include: Henderson City Mayor; Three Henderson Aldermen positions from Ward 1; County Property Assessor; Three School Board Members – one from District 3, one from District 4, and one from District 5; and one County Commissioner in District 3 to complete the unexpired term resulting from the recent death of Commissioner Johnny Garner. Both major parties chose to nominate party representatives for applicable positions via caucus rather than have a local primary. If anyone is interested in seeking a nomination at one of the party caucus meetings, they may call Chad Cherry with the Republican party or Gloria Holiday with the Democratic party for more information.
The August election will also be a Primary election for the state and federal General election that will take place November 5, 2024. State positions to be filled include a Tennessee Senate position for District 26 and a Tennessee House of Representatives position for District 72. On the federal level, a U.S. Senate position for Tennessee will be filled as well as a U.S. House of Representatives position for District 8.
With 2021 Redistricting and moving voting out of the schools this year, some voters may be a bit confused about exactly where they should go to vote. Early Voting will continue to be at 126 Crook Avenue directly behind the Chester County Courthouse. For those who prefer to vote on Election Day but are not sure where they should go, they can feel free to call the Election Office at 731-989-4039 with any questions they may have.
