Chester County Board of Education looks to have graduation in mid summer

The Chester County Board of Education discussed when they could have graduation for the Chester County High School Class of 2020 during their virtual board meeting on Thursday, April 23.
As of now, they intend to have the ceremony late June or July. Methods of having the graduation are still unknown for now. The board decided to wait to see how the pandemic conditions continue.
Chester County schools cafeteria workers were approved to receive a stipend for their hard work of providing food for children during the weeks of the Coronavirus.
Director of Schools Troy Kilzer II said that at each distribution on Tuesdays and Fridays, an average of 750 children are provided meals which makes about 2,700 to 3,000 meals each week.
“I can not speak enough to sing the praise of Stephanie Lollar and the cafeteria managers and the cafeteria staff, who from the inception of this plan, have committed themselves to make sure the kids in our community are well fed,” Kilzer said.
Meals will continue to be provided on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon through May 15.
A new custodian position was also approved. The position will have the responsibility of cleaning the new baseball and softball facilities, the interior of North Chester, Williams Auditorium and the board of education office.
The CCHS Student Health Council highlighted moments throughout their year.
“Donuts for Dads” was an event held at West Chester that let the students invite their dads to enjoy donuts with them. For the kids whose dads could not be present, local pastors and law enforcement spent time and ate donuts with them.
Another moment was their “Throw Kindness Like Snow” float during the Christmas parade which encouraged spreading kindness.
The SHC also provided bus drivers with cold water and chocolate and the cafeteria workers with meals and goodies this year.
These are just a few of the activities they spearheaded.
The next CCBOE meeting will be held virtually at 7 p.m. May 14.
